There's 2 versions of this, one with a Daryl lead and the other with John

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is one of my favorites...

Whoops! cop That's a Gordon Lightfoot original. canada

thumbs up!

Thanks! I've been meaning to look up the original (I knew it was a remake).

Nice, but I like the solemn, melancholy feel of Sarah M's version a bit better. nod

Oh, TOTALLY! She can do a cover right. I even like her Joni Mitchell cover of the same song we were talking about on page one of this thread, "River".

This is a brilliant song that I hope makes it into the modern canon.

this has become my favourite christmas song over the years. Tthe music is magic, the voice is beautiful.

Yeah, I love George Michael. I met him twice. First time was in Dublin after I went to his Symphonica show at the O2. A few of us got to go backstage. Really lovely man. I got an autograph and then he asked ME for MY autograph. LOL. Anyway, maybe 3 or 4 months later I met him again in London in the BBC studios. And he remembered me from before. A real class act and a true gent. But like I said in one of the posts above. As much as I love December Song, I find it hard to listen to. Especially since my mum passed on.

Christmas is a time for a lot of different emotions, sorry about your mom hug

Another Lonely Christmas by Prince is the only Christmas song that I really like.

Probably because it has almost nothing to do with Christmas.

I like the lyrics a lot, the instrumentation, that Purple Rain era vibe, his voice, everything .

I absolutely love the extended version of it.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This one for the novelty and feel of nostalgia. It feels and sounds like a cover of a 50's song...but it's an original. But THIS is my absolute fave...novelty or not.

the Mariah Carey song is my fave for christmas.

I dislike her "disney-music" in general.

But this song "All I Want For Christmas is You", thats a great song.... love it... nod

Also I am hardly going to get that excited about a genre that emphasises snow and icy weather when its 23 degrees outside and that is considered cold (70s for you Yankees using the obselete 18th century Farenheit system).

Who wants to eat turkey when its 80 outside and the carols by candlelight have to wait until at least 9.30pm as it is too light before. Honestly, our Christmas is your June.

Christmas day sunrise here is 5.59am and sunset is 8.42pm not like 4 oclock as most Christmas movies show, Christmas is heavily northern hemisphere biassed and then snowy climate based. Here our winters it seldom drops below 50 and we have not had any snow ever (Alleged snowfalls in 1939 and 2011 were actually hailstorms).

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Loads, and I think the UK has a few of the best ones like Slade's "Merry christmas everybody" and my personal favourite, Wizzard's "I wish it could be christmas everyday", which is like Spector on steroids. Amazing track.

Anyway, here's a few

New Edition "All I want for christmas is my girl" ""It's christmas all over the world" "The joy of christmas"

Jeff Lorber "God rest the house"

Good Question "Winter wonderland"

Wendy and Lisa featuring Seal "The closing of the year"

Bruce Springsteen "Merry Christmas Baby"

Pretenders "Have yourself a merry little christmas"

Bon Jovi "Back door Santa"

Bryan Adams "Run rudolph run"

New kids on the block "This one's for the children" "I still believe in santa claus"

Jackson 5 "Someday at christmas"

Tom Jones "Mary's boy child"

Vanessa Williams "Go tell it to the mountain/ Mary had a baby"

Michael W Smith "Gloria" "All is well"

Jon Anderson "Give hope" "Hurry home" "Oh Holy night" "How it hits you"

Michael Bolton "Have yourself a merry little christmas" "Joy to the world" "Silent night"

The Jets "Christmas in my heart" (like "Last christmas", this is a sad little song), "Love so rare" "On christmas night"

Alexander O Neal "My gift to you" "our first christmas" (Lisa keith sounds great as always), "Remember why (it's christmas)" "Little drummer boy" "Thank you for a good year"
