A formidable team indeed. They toured the US with this line up under the title "Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains." Mental.

Buckethead fans should check out Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal's solo stuff. The guy is every inch the virtuoso that Bucket is, and can also sing and write proper songs. Go on Youtube and check out songs like Dash, Shadow, Never Again, Abnormal. The man is an incredible talent.

You may be interested to know that Ron plays a lot of the best leads (imo) on Chinese Democracy. The gorgeous solo and shredding on Catcher In The Rye is all Ron, and that crazy-ass solo and tapping on Shacklers Revenge is also Ron.

Bumblefoot is the whole package
One of the rare virtuosos who actually has a talent for songwriting.

If you like Bucket, you'll love DJ Ashba. He's a multi-talented guitarist/songwriter/producer who helped out Axl by agreeing to be GNR lead guitarist for several years before dumping the band after starring in the movie "Appetite for Democracy 3D" to focus on his current band Sixx:A.M.

Here's the album he produced for Neil Diamond, check out the feature track "Meditations on a Winter" written by Ashba.

And here's just two of Ashba's many hit guitar solos ...

^^ Not sure if you're taking the piss or not, but Ashba is a complete hack and an embarrassment to Guns N Roses. By far the least talented guitarist the band has ever had.

You can criticize Axl all you want, but his eye for talent - especially with guitarists - is unquestionable. There's a reason why Ashba was selected to be the main guitarist, and why he stayed in the band so long before feeling comfortable about voluntarily leaving to allow the return of Slash. I understand many GNR fans, probably you included, didn't care for Ashba's personality ... didn't like the similarities between him and Slash ... didn't like his EMO image ... his commercialism ... and resented the fact he replaced Bucket. That's all fine, everyone's entitled to their opinions.

But when it comes to evaluating guitar talent, sorry ... I will trust Axl's judgement before any fan's. twocents

My dislike of Ashba has nothing to do with his EMO image or his commercialism. It's to do with the fact that he really isn't a very good guitar player. He constantly relied on Bumblefoot to do the hard guitar parts that he couldn't handle during his time in GNR and has butchered more than a few GNR tracks live.

If he wasn't a very good guitar player, why was he the top choice of both Axl and Nikki Sixx for lead guitarist of their bands? It's not like he's related to them or grew up with them.

I like Bumble too, but he's screwed up during live performances just as often as Ashba. And Slash has screwed up as well, if you're looking for perfection in every performance you're not going to find it with any guitarist.
