Funky Drummer vs Impeach the President: Who U Got?

We all know who James Brown is, but who the hell are the Honey Drippers? They're obviously trying to be like the James Brown band. Their grooves are something similar to what JB and his boys would come up with.

But, does their rare song beat out the Godfather of Souls for the ultimate Hip-Hop break beat?

I'm biased. The very first beat I played on a drumset was Clyde Stubblefield's break in "Funky Drummer". However, after listening to the whole song of "Impreach The President" again, I recall a many hip hop beats that sampled it with great results.

NOT EASY, because they are both sorta the DNA of hip hop.

but "Impeach The President" for me.

Yeah Cinny, there's probably hundreds of hip hop joints that's sampled that Honeydrippers record. I knew I was forgetting some...

Man, Thanks for those Marley Marl clips! "Eric B. Is President" was the first rap I memorized. Ra's voice/style has got to be one of the illest ever to "bless the mic". Great seeing it recreated by its producer.

Who knew Marley played those horns samples backwards to create that sound on "The Bridge"? I know I didn't. Brilliant!

I think that was a revelation to me when I watched that YouTube too! Of course, I had that Disc-O-Tech Volume One (quite common in Canada) but I don't think I ever reversed it.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not the same,
Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Duh. I know Robert Plant was not in a early 1970s funk band, he was in Led Zeppelin! lol There's also a bossa nova group called Honey Drippers
