Good song and very Beatlesque for sure. Reminds me a little of Imagine by John for some reason. It is melancholic and ELO are known for their uptempo tracks like 'All Over the World', 'Mr Blue Sky' etc but there's also 'Telephone Line' and other slow songs they've recorded. The Beatles were a big influence on Jeff Lynne & the ELO sound. Also Jeff has worked with Ringo and with George on his Cloud 9 LP and was of course part of the Travelling Wilbury's with him too. Lynne also produced the uncovered Beatles demo "Free as a Bird" back in the day. Not sure if Jeff's worked with Sir Paul on any solo/Wings stuff in the past but I'm guessing it's a possibility he has. And yea, some great tracks on the Xanadu soundtrack including the title track by Olivia Newton-John. Think there's a solo version of it on Youtube too sung by Jeff Lynne but I prefer the original version from the Xanadu OST.
dammit, the youtube link does not work for me. I get the ELO picture, but the sound is from "A Day In The Life"
just kidding, hehe, actually I like it! I might check out the new CD after all. the last album I bought was Secret Messages in 1986, I have no idea how the later albums sound like. any recommendations form the ones who know?
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!
Jeff singing lead on Xanadu, would be cool if someone mixed his vocals in with Olivia's to create a duet version although Jeff's version is at a slower tempo.
As for the ELO later albums, only one which comes to mind is Zoom, think it's from 2001.
Legal reasons, mostly. I though Jeff Lynne owned ELO since Roy Wood left, but maybe not. Most likely he wants people to know his name but few would buy a solo album from him. Of course ELO records have all been Jeff Lynne solo records since Roy Wood left, but again, not many people know his name. Who knows in this case.

Lynne Produced much of McCartney's Flaming Pie, which was a fantastic album. One his best "later" albums.
Looking forward to this new album and hope he does some shows to support it. His last ELO album, Zoom is great too, which came out like 10 years ago or so? But I don't think it sold so Lynne never took it on the road? I might be wrong on the specifics but remember being let down he didnt do any shows for it.

Jeff did a Zoom tour DVD think it was either a TV or PPV special at first. I also think he did tour but not wasn't a tour on a grand scale. I assume if his new record is a success they'll be a tour, Japan, UK & US seem likely.
The album has some good songs on it,but to me,it is not an ElO album. This is a Jeff Lynne solo album, with a few ELO elements thrown into the mix.I was hoping it would be a full-fledged ELO reunion album, with the orchestral sounds and great vocal harmonies that we love so much.
I heard about this new album too, and wondered if it was going to be good. Judging from what people have posted here, it sounds like it's getting mixed reviews. My older brother loved ELO, so when I was growing up back in the 70's, there was a lot of ELO music being played in the house that I grew up in. ELO had some great songs back in the day.
Dunno much about ELO, but I liked the song they did on CBS this morning(Boy). They did a song I actually knew. I may pick up a hits package. Yep the song Boy does sound like a George Harrison song.
