Van Hunt drops an unreleased album from '08 called "Civilization"!

Last night Van Hunt dropped an unreleased and unfinished concept album from 2008 entitled "Civilization". All of the 14 tracks are still in demo form. But there is some interesting tracks on here. Van explains the project below. The link to buy the album is also below.

Riddle me this: Does an unreleased album of demos that is now for sale (i.e. released) become a finished product with completed tracks (i.e. they aren't demos anymore as demos are meant to promote the sale product) when an artist goes indie? The whole thing makes my head hurt. Its cool you post here though.

Too me demos are songs that were never ready for purchase. Not finished/complete and or not masteted.

Van Hunt's lack of success* is emblematic of our culture's shoddy taste and stupid values:
how many times do I have to hear about PBR&B stars singing about beating the pussy up
and doing lines of coke?

That being said, it is an interesting state of affairs when your album of demos may be more
captivating than the proper full length album you released earlier.

*I'm speaking mostly of popular success as in huge album sales, etc. I have no idea how
Van Hunt personally frames success.

"Fascination" is so cool! I wonder what the influence is there? Heheheh.....

Anyways, "Muted Symphony" is Van Hunt at his finest.

Identity

A raw and powerful effort, with solid production work. Van Hunt seldom fails, with the exception of the last album, as it was an uninspired letdown.

Dang...I really dug The Fun Rises! These demos are great. Definitely not as good as any finished studio album. But, still very good.

Indeed and I don't know what the other users are talking about when they claim TFRTFS is unistenable.

I bought Civilization and Use in Case of... good stuff.

The Fun Rises is an amazing album. To each their own, but it continues to blow me away 6 months later.

I'm a little biased toward The Fun Rises because it came out the day my daughter was born. But that just makes great music even better.

Fascinated is for sale on his site. Although, Muted Symphony is not.

He put up another solid demo track called "Next Year" on his site as well.

Me too !!! I dug the hell out of "The Fun Rises....". I see this demo project, as an extra goodie bag to the latest album. "I'm Not A Rainbow..........., my god, man !!!! Great stuff.

Muted Symphony is an unreleased track that Van recorded back in 1999 for the self titled album. You can hear it here. http://vanhunt.com/album/bootlegs/

It's a great track. It's the favorite of a few of my friends.

Yeah, he fucken killed that track. It reminds me of "Highlights" from the eponymous album in
its production values.
