The S.O.S. Band needs an Unsung episode

Forreal.

This group is so overlooked and underrated. They helped to set the sonic standard for R&B music in the 80s and 90s. Was just listening to Just the Way You Like It and it's crazy how futuristic it sounds even now, much less when it was released in 1984 when nothing else sounded like the music on that album. Some songs sound like they shouldn't have come out for another 4-10 years.

Granted the band were a vehicle for Jam and Lewis, they were a well-running vehicle with the right drivers in J&L. Their talent isn't renowned enough to not have an Unsung episode by now.

Oh yeah. I'd like to get some exposition on them before they hit the mainstream scene and before Jam and Lewis came into the fold on their third album.

To a lesser extent, I'd like to know what they're up to these days. They dropped a song last year that I thought was leading to a new album. confused

It'll be interesting to hear from lead singer Mary Davis and why she left the group in the late 80s.

LOVE ME some Queen Mary! She left to pursue a solo career, but flopped out. Jam & Lewis were tied up and she ended up with Howie Rice, L.A., Kayo & Babyface, but the songs, "Steppin' Out," "Don't Wear It Out" and "Have You Been Loved" went virtually unnoticed. Hers is the SEXIEST voice in R&B in my opinion. smile

They're currently recording a new album as of this writing. They released a hit song in the U.K. last year entitled, "Just Get Ready" and though it's not with Jam & Lewis, it's a total clone of their classic Flyte Tyme-produced sound. Pretty amazing, actually! If you visit their FB page (The Real S.O.S. Band), you can take advantage of some pretty sweet offers which seek fan support (financially) in helping them 2 record and release the new album. It's an interesting approach, but hey...both the band AND the fans will have opportunities 2 make out. Check it out! smile

So an album is on the way! Yes!! Thanks for telling me!

I think it'll be a good idea to make this a sticky. They need all the contributions they can get to get this album out!

Yes!!! And you're welcome! They're counting on fans' help in order 2 release it! It'd be nice if they could have J&L produce a few tracks TOO! smile
