Teena Marie

Besides Prince, Teena is my other favorite. I could just listen to him and her all day everyday. Just wanna know what are some of ya'lls favorite tracks. I know she gets a lot of love here...lets show some more! A few of my faves are songs that weren't singles. (although I do love her whole catalog, I could live without hearing "Lovergirl" again.) I love "Deja Vu (I've been here before)', "Yes Indeed", "Cassanova Brown", "You So Heavy", "Ear Candy 101", "The Mackin' Game", "Since Day One"...thoughts?

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Lead Me On. I went an entire summer listening to that song at least once per day. And I never got sick of it. Pure 80's bliss!

I use to Love catching Teena perform LIVE on The Tom Joyner morning show...He booked her all the time because she was the BEST LIVE performer hands-down..Teen would hit the Highest notes at 6am and hold them..If there were any doubts about her Range she shut that down from the jump..She was always in great singing voice and you could tell she really Loved to sing....She more than earned that Phat paycheck Tom kept paying her...She definitely left us too soon...Her last albums made it to the Top of the Pop & R&B Charts...

I would agree with this, but I also think that Emerald City ranks up there. I definitely think it's the most overlooked (and underappreciated) album in her catalogue. I actually liked it more than Wild and Peaceful.

It might be out of print for some areas, but Sugar Shack (12" Version) was on the greatest hits album, Lovergirl: The Teena Marie Stor y.

Brother Andy missed out on Teena's Prince-inspired Emerald City album. Teena's Ivory album was her take on the New Jack Swing genre.

I got the chance to see her in 2009 in Oakland where did a mini concert for the release of Congo Square at Kimball"s. She had a short Q&A section and I told her that Emerald City was my favorite album. She seemed genuinely surprised. She also mentioned that Lenny Kravitz told her it was his favorite album of hers, too.

If there is one thing people take away from this thread, is that Emerald City deserves to be revisited.
