He did rip off the song but the money that was asked for was highway robbery. Especially when today's song writers get butt fucked financially.

They need to get real about percentages. Okay, so let's say the song was a rip off. You can't ask for 100% of the lyrics and ALL of the music writing credit. It's not a cover song! You know?

Sampling and Interpolation negotiations were fair about 21 years ago, which is when rap tracks were awesome. You wonder why Notunes and Swizz got so popular PLAYING every riff and beat off of synth racks.

My guess is it was an aim-for-the-moon-and-hit-a-star sort of thing.

I've read that T.I. was not held liable, which was a good call. I think the song was generally a ripoff, but clearly there were some original components.
