I wonder what Chante meant by her and Kenny "Love in different ways"?
She was really disturbed over their breakup. ![hmmm](/i/s/icon_hmm2.gif) FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

Yeah,I understand all that but it's just so annoying to see bandmembers feuding with each other, and offering their fans two different versions of the same group It's ridiculous.Such a shame that money and ego ruins many of these bands.
Wait until you see the episode Soul. It just seems Mark Adam Wood came off a little shady.
The band offered to make peace but he wasn't having it and seemed to abandon them and do his own thing and hire some fill ins to perform cheaper and keep more of the loot. His bandmates weren't too happy about it and trademarking the Lakeside name either.
Good episode and I'm not going to pass judgement on any of the Lakeside members because, after all, splitting gig money between 9 members has to be a real pain in the ass! |

It certainly is....espeacilly when the cuts are not equal because of writing, production, etc.
That is whey Mint Condition and Terry Lewis/Jimmy Jam have stayed together so long. Everything is equal. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

I need to collect some more of their music, too.I only have the 1978 'Shot Of Love' album, the 1979 'Rough Riders' album and their 1980 'Fantastic Voyage' album, plus a 'Best Of' CD by them.
Need to get some of their 80s albums.
Btw,'Rough Riders' is such an underrated album. It didn't have any major hits, but it's incredibly funky. |

Lakeside had a lot of cool jams! "Your Love Is On The One" (1980) "It's All The Way Live" (1978) "Pull My String" (1979) "Outrageous" (1984) "Make My Day" (1984)
They were also known for their album covers having a specific theme. For Fantastic Voyage the group were depicted as pirates. Your Wish Is My Command had them as genies. Shot of Love pictured them as Robin Hood-era archers and Rough Riders had them as cowboys.
word...them album covers were hilarious...
but, "Something About That Woman" and "Your Wish Is My Command" were monster hits in the club back then...sheeeit...Lakeside had quite a few joints that blew up |

Is Shot Of Love the album they recorded for ABC records and they were saying somebody else wrote the songs and it was kind of artsy fartsy?

Maybe true but the problem is Stephen Shockley and Thomas Shelby wrote and produced some of those Lakeside hits as well as for other artists like Klymaxx, early Babyface, Stephanie Mills, Billy Ocean, Dazz Band just to name a few. It's just my opinion the lead singer could have handled it better if he didn't want to perform with the family anymore. It's similar to what Cheryl Cooley put the rest of the Klymaxx members through. Well, it wouldn't suprise me if he was. As far as Kenny, most would consider him a pretty boy. Pretty boys are always suspect. I haven't had a chance to watch the Chante episode yet but Ed Gordon aired an interivew with her earlier this year on his radio show and I remember the angry tone she used when she spoke of Kenny. There is definately no love loss between them. Too bad she recorded two albums with him as part of her discography to serve as a constant reminder. ![confused](/i/s/icon_confused.gif)

Recently saw Chante's Unsung online through TV One's website. Did anyone else peep the insinuation that the 21 yr. old that raped her @ 14 or 15 yrs. old was able to date her because he gave "them" money, as in the whole family?

I never got that Lou Silas was following the Whitney blueprint for her back then. That explains the mature material and image. Kind of reminds me of Mariah and her situation with Tommy Mottola. Sucks that she lacked a vision / visionary after leaving Silas Records. And based on the new material with Kurupt, looks like she's still clueless as to what's best for her career. Shame actually. ![confused](/i/s/icon_confused.gif) |

Still bewilders me why MCA chose not to market her outside of black radio. Did she address that on Unsung? Chante possessed everything it took to be a huge, non-threatening Pop A/C superstar like Nippy and Mimi.

Just got a chance to watch the Chante episode. I don't get the feeling she and Kenny's marriage broke up due to any sexual orientation issues. Just listening to her talk about her experiences with men in general, I think Chante is like a lot of women living in fairytale land thinking that they are going to fall in love, get married to some perfect guy and live happily ever after. It didn't happen. And Lord, please don't let her release a hip-hop album! That song she was singing with that rapper sounded awful! "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Great question. Not really. Maybe Lou Silas didn't have the budget for it as a new label? idk. She was one of, if not his first act he signed on his new label at the time. |

I wonder what would have happened if Chante had signed with Arista and had Clive Davis guiding her career I bet she would have had alot of crossover success.
