R.I.P Ben Cauley(Bar-Kays) Sad news to pass along. Ben Cauley one of the original Barkays passed away at age 67 per the band Facebook page. He was the only survivor of the 1967 plane crash that took the lives of Otis Redding and 4 of the 6 original Barkays. Cauley played trumpet for the band and is famous for the playing the opening riff of Soul Finger. Cauley battled health issues for years including a stroke he suffered in 1989. He continued to play backing up Isaac Hayes, Aretha Franklin, the Doobie Brothers, and the Barkays for special shows celebrating the music of Stax. R.I.P Ben Cauley Don't laugh at my funk

Mr. Cauley getting down here in this 1967 video. This is a reformed version of the band after the plane crash. You can see long time member Harvey Henderson joining the group on sax. Mr. Cauley also appeared in the movie Soul Men. Don't laugh at my funk
