Again, it's not whether or not you're impressed with who she influenced. That isn't what gets you into the Hall. What gets you in is the influence itself, not whether or not people are impressed with who you influenced. It's pop music, not Mozart. With that being said, she has influenced a slew of artists throughout several generations.

Kylie Minogue and her sister Danni have sampled and/or covered Janet songs. When Alanis Morrissette was a dance/pop artist in her native Canada, she would go see Janet concerts just to derive inspiration, and she performed live covers of "Black Cat" while part of the Canadian band The New York Fries. i don't really have a dog in this fight and i'm admittedly not a janet jackson fan and i haven't read all of all of the comments here, but...

it seems to me that everybody keeps saying 'artist' a lot (especially with regards to those jj might have influenced)...seriously? most of those mentioned rate 'entertainer' at best (janet included, just my opinion), manufactured profit producer (read product) at worst. without stylists, choreographers, writers, producers, connections....you wouldn't know who any of these people are.

i think the contrast between jj's (regardless of her influence) and the rest of the nominee fields' artistic talent is pretty stark.

Thank you! Thats kind of what I was trying to say. Not whether or not she belongs in the ROF but going through that long posts of people she influenced I felt myself feeling not impressed at all. like the poster said referred to what i consider a "a joke list" of influences. that's all.

none of the people she influence has a chance in hell of getting in the hall of fame thenselves. janet is a cool artist who put out good singles, great videos, can dance, looks good, and puts on a good show. however.. let not forget she is not that great of a vocalist and she did not wright agood portion of her music and lyrics, it was her ex husband. the only reason she would get is because she is michael sister.

Hits are not a criteria for getting in the museum. Percy Sledge had one really big hit (but not exactly a one hit wonder though) and he's in. A lot of the rock bands had few if any Top 40 hits like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc. The Peter Gabriel era of Genesis only had one hit in the US and they were inducted, it wasn't just the more well known 1980s 3 man lineup. Huey Lewis & The News has more hits than all of those groups, so if that was the way to get in, Huey Lewis would be in. So would John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Journey, Kenny Loggins, Whitney Houston, Johnny Mathis, Lionel Richie, Richard Marx, Bryan Adams, and many other acts.
