Rock Is Dead On The Charts. Rock is not dead... i'm not saying that. There's tons of great rock bands going around today but fuck is rock dead on the charts! and the VMAs when's the last time a rock band that wasn't Coldplay or Mooron 5 on the VMA's? the only ''rock'' bands on the charts last year were Coldplay and Adam Whie Devil Levine 5. And aside from the odd ''indie rock'' one hit wonder. Rock has been dead on the charts for so damn long now. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Who won the rock award at the VMAs this year? I remember Lorde won it last year... Also, there's Imagine Dragons but they've been more pop than rock since blowing up in 2013.

Nirvana is now almost 30 years old. Time to find a new target. It's interesting because the image of a "rock star" is still prevalent and those people are often pictured wailing on guitar. That's OK, us rockers will haunt the underground and fill spaces the children of today have left empty. We don't need 'em. The only thing that troubles me is, rock sometimes needs a really shitty mainstream culture to rebel against, that is so hateful it makes kids say "I'm gonna be the anti-that!" Nirvana had Bon Jovi and Limp Bizkit had Nirvana. It's a cycle. Bon Jovi was probably rebelling against boring skinnytie new wave or something when they started in the early 80s, and those bands were rebelling against Skynyrd and the Doobies. What happens where there is no mainstream rock culture? What do you rebel against? EDM and hip-hop? Ooh, makes you seem kinda racist and old when you do that. Music of the past? Who cares about that stuff anymore? There's no culture to run counter to.

It's never been the same since they killed hair metal.

How can you blame a rock band for the "demise" of rock music? A lot of people think Nirvana killed hair metal (a.k.a glam or pop-metal) since they were part of the Seattle scene that was rebelling against it, but I think it was really Guns N Roses that killed it! GNR had a grittier sound and image than what was happening with most of the other bands at the time, and MTV originally only played them late at night instead of in regular rotation.
Rock might be dead on the singles charts, but it isn't dead on the album charts! I've seen rock and metal albums on the album charts right alongside whatever pop, hip-hop, or dance music that's out at the time.

You're right, I saw Heart about 2 years ago and Ann and Nancy were awesome.

Hair metal was shit though. If that's what people think "rock" is, down with rock.

Rock in its purist form is currently dead and it may never return. Only when it is combined with other genre's does it get any mainstream airplay. The

Look, you can't look at a pop chart and expect anything else but pop right now.

RAP crushed everything... Rock has been DEAD for some time. I could say more but I'll keep it at that....

I truly hope good rock music makes a comeback whether it's on the charts or not. In the meantime, I'll keep rocking Faster Pussycat, LA Guns, Pantera and Metallica.

Oh gosh. Try to book and promote a rap tour then get back to me.

I know but RAP still blew-up, crushed, and ran all over Rock & Roll. Hell, I see the tractor truck tire treads on these rockers backsides.
Hell RAP crushed everythang... now all we have is a bunch of junk posing as singers / musicians. Starting "Twiiter" wars about who better then who. Damn, its all to depressing, I'm sorry I clicked on this thread.

rock is dead on the charts because new bands suck dead monkey ass a good rock band releases a killer single (or a couple) that boosts album sales that's how it was done in the '60s, '70s, '80s and hell even in the '90s

AC/DC got a nÂș17 moderate hit with "Play Ball" in late 2014 only the veteran bands can pull it off at this point there are a lot of genres which will DIE when the veteran bands retire
