Listen to their songs. They should be mentioned in the same breath as other established Funk acts like Earth, Wind & Fire, Parliament/Funkadelic, Cameo, LTD, The Commodores and many others.

That's true...their songs were technically "funk".I think they just got lumped in with the disco bands of that era because their songs were (mostly) about dancing and having fun.

My favorite KC & The Sunshine Band song is "Boogie Shoes".Interestingly,this song was released in 1975 but didn't really get alot of attention until a few years later when it was featured on the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack.

KC and rode in on the Disco Train.... befo' Disco was reduced to shit. So watered down that even my beloved Sylvers "sampled", "The Theme from Mahongany and pimped as a disco song.
Lets be clear about disco and its influences.... funk, pop, salsa, & soul. I stand by what I said.

KC definitely blurred the lines a lot, especially in the beginning when it was KC and the Sunshine Junkanoo. This band was literally formed by guys who lived a few blocks down the road from us. They're a little older than me but my oldest godsister went to school with a couple of them and knew them because they were of Bahamian descent too.
If you listen carefully you can hear the Caribbean influenced sounds in there.
I'm watching the epi now and they most certainly do not consider themselves a disco act. I tend agree because their Miami/Caribbean hybrid r & b style predates disco by several years.

"Part 3" was the very first album I ever bought with my own loot! I was 13! I never considered KCSB "Disco." Always "Funk/R&B." That horn section is the PROOF! Funkytowngrooves U.K. just remastered, reissued and expanded their failed Epic/CBS 1981 & 1982 albums "The Painter" and "All In A Night's Work" for the first time EVER on CD! MUST haves!

You won't me to list others.. I shalll. KC ain't no Funk band... a song here or there doesn't make you a funk band... let's get a grip my brother.
Great episode takes me down memory lane I wouldn't consider KC Unsung but at least he's introduce to a new audience. George McCrae deserved his own episode.
Is it me I always thought KC is gay...Yes I know he doesn't have to share his personal life with the public but I think he's still hiding. The surprise revelation was his former bass player songwriting partner pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a minor didn't know about that. Sad to know some of his band members have passed away.
