For clarity...to make a clickable link....place a "(URL]" immediately before and a "[/URL)" immediately after the said link. But only use brackets...not parenthesies . i used them to allow the notation to be seen. It makes the org OH SO EASIER to use...if people would just be courteous enuff to do that.

And after all of that. I don't like the song.

.

I honestly think "Wildcard" (all kind of releases) is up to quality level like his previous 4 albums, and it wasn't released under Sony but on independent label.

It is really full of musical gems, with only 3 or 4 weak tracks on the totality of 24 (if I'm not wrong).

.

After that he changes his musical direction to a more stripped down sound, and I must admit I didn't enjoyed too much (barring some great tracks, here and there).

.

Now it seems he is returning to a fuller sound so I'm happy.

And if it wasn't I would be happy for "Paradise Postponed" only.

Wildcard was the first TTD album I bought. All of his earlier albums seemed lesser to me, to be honest. And the subsequent work seemed cheap, for lack of a better word, so I never really checked it out.

I have a special love for "Neither Fish Nor Flesh".

I know many thinks it's his worst album but to me is wonderful and really "genius showing", especially being the 2nd album after the world success of "Introducing".

.

And I really really like "Symphony Or Damn".

.

"Vibrator" has some great tunes inside but I think it is a little overproduced and chaotic.

.

"Introducing" is the more mainstream of the 4 (obviously) and in that way is probably the one I listen less to. Even though I recognize it is a great album, the other 3 give me more musical satisfaction.

Neither Fish Nor Flesh has to be one of the boldest sophomore albums ever. I don't listen to it often, but I admire the hell out of it.

I'll always love Introducing the Hardline because it was the very first album I ever bought and I still think it's his best. Symphony or Damn is also good, but too long and the same goes for Wildcard. And yes, the later recordings sound cheap, because he had to do without the big studios since going indie.

Listened to the previews on Sananda's facebook and liking a lot of the tracks. On the snippet of the cover of the Beatles "If I Fell" he sounds very Stevie-like. A few of the tracks like Metamorphus sound familar and I think they could be newly recorded or are the free Mp3 songs that used to be on his website. To me, it sounds like his most cohesive work since Wildcard and I think it's an album if it were cut down to a single disc where the best 'mainstream' songs where chosen and they put a major label marketing machine behind it then it would be a hit.

As for the sound recording quality, as these are independent releases you're not going to get the sound quality of a mainstream artist recording since they use state of the art studios and much of the time there's tons of audio magic performed on them (EQing/autotuning [depending on the artist(s)/compression etc) and in some instances IMO it squeezes all the life out of the music since it sounds so digitally processed. This is an old article but looks at how to get a professional sound:

Sananda Maitreya

EXCLUSIVE Interview: Sananda Maitreya Talks To Music Crowns

You live in Italy now, what determined that decision & what’s the best thing about Italy?

The best thing about living in Italy is that it is where my wife’s culture is rooted and therefore our two sons will have access to a lot of great tradition as well as access to timeless values. It is also a great place to pursue the arts because it has always been very supportive of the value of art as a part of our lives. Artists are very respected in Italy, and they love their singers and songwriters. It is a comfortable environment in which to create and a lot of history to draw upon. The food is great, the women are beautiful of all ages and the wine is as it is supposed to be. A creative environment is not a threat here and it helps in producing good work.

Your new project is named ‘The Rise Of The Zugebrian Time Lords’ – tell us a bit about what this means and what the listeners can expect?

The listener can expect an adventure through space/time in sound! The ZUGEBRIAN TIME LORDS wish to expand their control of time, past, present & future in order to steal & control our destiny. They use time travel & confusion to achieve dominance. Once dominance achieves power, dominance doesn’t NOT LIKE TO SURRENDER power, or ANY of its gains.

What is your favourite song to perform and why?

My Favorite Song to Perform is Always the One Getting the Most Applause at the time! WHY? Because I am sentimental that way.

Sananda Maitreya

Sananda Maitreya

You’ve had an illustrious career – what advice can you give newcomers to the industry?

My illustrious career was paid for in blood and nothing less. The ‘Hero Factory’ has even worse stories to tell than the factory where sausages are made, both bloody and both full of squealing! I would tell anyone that unless they were willing to pay with their life, it would be better for them to find a more stable way to make a living, because ONLY FOOLS WOULD NOW ENTER THE MUSIC BUSINESS, and only fools like us remain. I had no choice, I was called to music. But IF YOU have a choice, run as far in the opposite direction as is humanly possible, and DO IT NOW, while you can still get out!

What’s your biggest regret in music?

My biggest regret is not having broken even more rules & barriers along the way and not having raised enough hell.

We have read you were a very handy boxer when you were younger – do you think that this could have been a career path?

It could have very well have been my career path, boxing, until somebody knocked some sense into me and reminded me that there HAD TO BE AN EASIER WAY to damage one’s brain. So I chose the music business, the brain damage is about the same without having to be punched in the face at the same time.

TTD is a former life now – will we ever see his return on the musical stage?

I can not as of yet imagine this possibility unless I can manage to save enough money to have myself cloned and THEN send THAT BITCH out to work and bring in the receipts! Then again, time is a fickle girl and I cannot say for sure. I can only say that the life I am living now has taken me to a good place. I am blessed with a wonderful wife & two sons and an opportunity to realize my musical dreams as they come, and as I can get to them. The old identity has been mummified & buried and it took everything that I had to transfer life from one, to the next. Luckily I had the ‘Sphinx’ for assistance & support. Meanwhile I am content with the choices I needed to make to move on to a better life.

Of today’s artists who do you admire?

Quite honestly, for the past 5 years, if I am not making music myself, I am almost totally surrounded by children’s music from the television, video games, and other media. I haven’t had much of a real chance to update myself over these years besides whatever I may hear in passing. Then again, I have grown to love how clever children’s music is, and how important music is as an education.

Is there anyone ‘unknown’ to us that we should keep a look out for?

Yes. WEEP FOR THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, WHO SHED HIS BLOOD FOR YOU! In the Zugebrian world, all unknowns are known & all who are known will disappear! And as far as where to keep a look out for them, it is always best to keep looking up at the skies, and if they are flying close enough, shoot them. Never trust people who are flying. If the world could trust flying people, There Would Be More Of Them!

Who would you like to collaborate with & would you consider a collaboration with an unsigned or indy artist?

With time & inspiration, I would consider any possibility to collaborate or even encourage talent to express itself. It would not necessarily have to be ‘indie’, which is just another label that companies hide behind. What is important is that it also serves the spirit of the music & not ONLY financial interests. Though there is nothing wrong in making a good living and benefitting from one’s service. Keep in touch with us at WWW.SANANDA.ORG and let’s see what happens. Time writes itself, while we are but the shadows passing comment upon it.

“Many thanks to MUSIC CROWNS for your interest in my life and work and please pass on to SAM how grateful I am for the opportunity to be given space in your situation to promote my ZUGEBRIAN project. I wish each concerned all the best and greeting to your families and loved ones!

Thanks again & God Bless,

Sananda Maitreya!”

damn, i'm deflated now. couldn't even make it thru "Blanket on the Ground" (give me "whimsical Prince over whimsical Terrence any day) production just sounds circusy. And this Robert Johnson track is just bizarre. He's "too deep" for his own good. Super creative but doesn't know where the line is. Now he's on some mystical musical LOTR's type ish. SMH. I like a good concept, but u gotta have the SONGS bruh. Shame, cause that voice is still there! Someone will have to cherry pick the good stuff for me, cause I just can't .....SIGH

I guess that is the downside of being totally free to do whatever you want: you can get caught up in your own little world. When I read the interview I couldn't figure out if he was joking or actually took all that Zubagron (or whatever it's called) shit seriously. Still, I liked Blanket On the Ground, I'm still interested.

I'd actually like to hear a Sananda covers CD or double CD or a standards albums which would showcase his strongest musical ability which is definitely his vocals.

SANANDA MAITREYA PER VOI SU INDIANA MUSIC MAGAZINE

Cover-OCTOBER 2015 DEF

The Rise Of The Zugebrian Time Lords. Pronti? Cliccate sulla cover qui sopra e buona lettura!

SANANDA MAITREYA

INDIANA October 2015, Sanansa Maitreya cover

Yesterday in the classic location of the Grand Hotel et de Milan I took some shots after Sananda Maitreya‘s press conference for his new album The Rise of the Zugebrian Time Lords.

Sananda Maitreya, Milano, October 7, 2015

For the INDIANA MUSIC MAGAZINE cover image I asked the artist, who was well known in the Eighties with another name, to go back to the past and rediscover his boxing fighter mood. Finally, I’ve chosen the first of the four shots taken with my Sony α 3000 and [For the photo session I used Sony α 3000 and FujiFilm X30 cameras]

I'm a fan from the 1st album "Hardline" onward. Thanks to Greycap23 for starting this thread and shouting out the new Sananda music--I, too, feel that it is greatly worth attention.

His lyrical content is broad--basic as a streetside party ["Family Reunion" (Nigor Mortis)]; poetic ["Shalom" (Wildcard)];romantic ["Pretty Baby" (A&V Vol II)]; zany ["Boolay Boolay" (A&V Vol I)]; to downright fantastic flights of fancy ["They Went Back in Time" (Rise of the Zugebrian Time Lords)], yet always rooted to a grain of truth. Allegorical is a word that some may choose to disregard yet may prretty well describe such mind-bending songs. I appreciate all of these characteristics of his songs along with the rock, pop, soul, and blues tones.

Sananda's voice and music to me is inspiring--it is soulful and it hits your gut. He records using mainly his own instrumentation, and his (drummer and bass) backing band, The Nudge Nudge, is great live BTW. All of his independent releases are professional recordings--he has not lost touch with the engineering end of songcraft. The sound is warm and intimate: it hums, pops, and snaps like you are sitting before the stage of a fine club, and you will find no compression whatsoever on these recordings. Listening to this stuff makes me feel good!

I like his songs titled by female names, like odes to women around the world that we can all dream about or recall.

While composing his songs, Sananda will often release groups of them in chapters that are not necessarily arranged in the order of a finished album nor always mastered, as inspiration hits. The groupings represent his thoughts toward the themes that are on his mind, and he includes original expositions (check the Background tab on his site) that serve as the background to the songs' origin.

I've paid the euro prices to import the CDs--I have Angels and Vampires Volume I+II and Nigor Mortis. Return to Zooathalon and ROTZTL are on their way to my doorstep! I buy them because Sananda Maitreya is offering something that I feel may be increasingly scarce and challenging to find within our musical landscape Stateside. Soul. Honesty. Integrity in production. Solid jams that stick with you. Creative content. I feel good supporting his cottage industry. His own small team gets his stuff out to the world. It is a difficult task but he is fighting the good fight--same as our man Prince, albeit on a diffferent track.

I hope that more people will check out some of his stuff! Don't sleep on Sananda. If you do, you may be missing out on something grand or just really different and cool. He's got bunch of music and video posted on Youtube.

Sananda Maitreya's bio with discography is found here--www.sanandamaitreya.com/biography

Sorry about the text block--I cannot work out the paragraphs on the org!

Rebeljuice

That interview above is actually one of his more lucid interviews. Some ive read are totally unintelligable. He pissed off the music industry in his prime because he was an arrogant look-at-me-im-a-genius dick. He tried to escape the damage he created by "doing a Prince" and changing his name. But whereas Prince finally gave up the mystical nonsense about the name change, TTD continues with it.

His first 3 albums are great. Fish Nor Flesh is awesome and Introducing is an iconic 80s album. But these days it all sounds quite messy and thrown together quickly. And whilst I think his voice is good, it lacks something. I cant put my finger on it. Its like he has no bass in his voice and he is always singing at the top of his register just short of shouting.

Still, good on the bloke for keeping at it. He obviously makes a living out of it and is independant of the industry which he seems to enjoy. But the mumbo jumbo that spews from his mouth is too self-important to me and smacks of someone trying to portray being an artistic genius when, in reality, he is a just talented musician/singer/song writer with a bit of a chip on his shoulder for not being recognised as more than he is.

<P/Judging by interviews and media reports from the 80s forward, I would say that Sananda pissed off the media with his arrogant proclamations. Here is a Black man coming out of the blocks claiming his work as more important than the Beatles--who would like having their heroes assulted like that? No media man would have ever taken it that far. The young dude thinking he knows it all--how cliche, right? But he did it--stepped his foot into the shizz, thinking he knew it all, playing the braggart role to hype his product and craft. He has paid a price for that. Apparently some people can be rather unforgiving! He still has some pretty good things to say to the world, however, IMO./P>

<P/And his voice is still fine. It has aged, as all voices do, but his range is just as broad and his bass is still there, too./P>

<P/His loquacious nature is one that can place his feet into hot water from time to time, but you know how artists are--criticism be dammed, they gotta do what they gotta do. I admire artists for that particular trait, saying what's on their mind; they are the sole group in the world that can be expected to play that role, bless them all! He channels some of that energy into writings that can be found on his blog www.sanandamaitreya.com/writings. It is a gloruous mumbo-jumbo of wordplay, puns, fantastic tales, and really down-to-earth banter that may actually make you chuckle if not scratch your head./P>

<P/As for Sananda's name change from Terrence, he had his reasons which he explains in some detail. He made it official. And he is a happier man for doing so, so good for him. Prince led the pack, doing the same thing in the 90s, without actually changing his name in order to prove a point. He had the audacity to make the media industry create a symbol (or call him "The Artist") to use soley for his reference. People hated him for that! Prince continues to retain his symbol--it is the most distinguished figure of his iconography. Sananda also has a symbol of his own design, and a slogan as well, "Post-Millenium Rock." Like Prince with his band names Revolution and New Power Generation, he is playing the branding game to foster recognition in a very broad competitive field of entertainment./P> It's a cool idea, and I'm glad he adopted it. It looks great on a t-shirt./P>

<P/ The music industry still wants him, and would be highly pleased to be making money off of his abilities, but he seems to be happily avoiding that game. Prince is giving the same industry the business, mainly on his preferred terms--see how he is jerking them around these days with his one-off deals that seem to be working okay for him thus far. We'll see how much farther he can carry it on! I do greatly admire Sananda's independent stance apart from the corporate machine, though. If nothing more, that fact alone earns him a very real "artist" ranking, be it greater or less./P>.
