Defintely grab "Inspiration"...that is a CLASSIC headphone record. Just getting lost in the music, lowlights and a comfortable couch and just zoning out. My other faves: Sly's "Riot"..Stevie's "Innervisions"..Marvin's "Here My Dear"..MeShell's "Comfort Woman"..P's "S.O.T.T"..Curtis' "LIVE"...so many more.
A headphone album is an album that was recorded and mixed in a way that when you listen with headphones, you will hear things that aren't as noticeable coming through the speakers.
D'Angelo's latest, 'Black Messiah' is definitely a headphone album. Jimi's 'Axis Bold As Love'. Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon' to name a few. [Edited 10/8/15 0:14am]

A well thought out sound system will produce every nuance of headphones.

most people's general listening aligns more with the $60 headphones/ipod set than it does the hundreds of dollars of equipment/mfsl experience...either way, though, it's more about a focussed, active listening experience.

Oh yes!
Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future...
stevie wonder's early 70s albums ie: talking book.
Now that I agree with the production and the entire mixing of that album along with Syreeta's first two albums sound like they were tailor made for headphones. So many entricate surprises in those albums its crazy.
