I have ALWAYS respected & enjoyed Miss Grace Jones as an artist & performer. she was way ahead of her time in the 70s & it looks like she's still way ahead of today's generation. as unique as she is - & has always been - she has no competition & is free to do (or not do) whatever she wants. her comments excerpted here are on point. I didn't know she had a book out but now that I do.. I plan to read it - & be enlightened. I'll see you tonight..

Lupita has the look, but not really the physique or Grace's stature.. or at least it doesn't look like it in photos I've seen of her. Change it one more time..

Lupita is shorter than Grace but I think movie-goers would overlook it..She has the Look, the Voice and i can picture her bringing "Fire" to the role...Lupita is a trained Actress and I think playing Grace would be the role of a Lifetime..Lupita is my first pick but I'd also think about casting Naomi Campbell or Tyra Banks or India Arie or even Fantasia....Dare I say the name Lauryn Hill? People sleep on Lauryn's acting-chops but I would put her on the short-list...

Lol.. I doubt you'd get any of those other people to cut their hair in a Grace box. I agree with you about Lupita though, I have no doubts she could pull it off. Change it one more time..

Corporate Cannibal alone pretty much blows away anything these young artists have been doing their whole careers.

I read some of the comments and they read my mind.it would be awesome to see a GaGa/Grace Jones collaboration. The two of them are one of a kind thats for sure and it sounds to me that Grace Loaths Miley,Beyonce and rihanna.Who can blame her?.I'm disillusioned with most music in the charts at the moment.Apart from Grace or GaGa can any1 recommend an original female 2 me???.

I think there is a double standard when it comes to a lot of artists on the org.

All of these useless tramps today - together - are not as bad as Grace. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

there is definately a double standard, some artists are never criticized for anything while some are criticized for everything. there is also alot of revisionist history on all of these message boards, im old enough to remember grace jones and i dont recall her being loved and respected, people thought she was weird and crazy.

That was revealed to be Etta suffering from dementia, and not real, I later found out.

Sometimes dementia gets the truth out

LOL @ blaming Etta's truth on dementia. Etta did not give fucks easily. . Never really got "into" Grace Jones but I can see what she is talking about as a pioneer. Where should I start album-wise if I wanna "get" her artistry?

I love Grace, and I think she is telling it like it is, these stars have limited appeal and already they become irrelevant after a year or 2 without a release. Grace Jones is a lot more enduring, she is an icon and like she said, she made a career out of being famous. . But her fame was limited in the States, where she had very few hits officially (She's very superficial, she hates everything official ) (Unlike UK where she had several Top 40 hits and 2 hits made #12), but she had a huge cult following, especially amongst gay men who ate up her fierce lynx like personality. I am a long time fan and have most of her albums and adore watching her in interviews. She is just so freaky and scary you love it, but it is all an act and underneath she is a deeply intelligent and very normal person (Her appearance on Johnathan Ross sounds this out). I even watched her vampire movie where she plays Katrina a 2000 year old vampire. Its pretty good by bad 80s horror movie standards. . Can't wait for her biography to come out! It will solve some mysteries. One version is I read her real name is Grace Mendoza and not Jones, and she was born in 1946 not 1952 or 1949 as stated and she apparently had sex when she was 7 years old. Her family apparently came to New York around 1965 and by 1970 she was modelling in Paris with Jerry Hall, hence her taste for all things French. . I really loved her music too, songs like La Vie En Rose, Fame, Do or die, Nightclubbing, Private life, I need a man, Slave to the rhythm, Williams Blood.
[Edited 9/23/15 16:36pm] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
