I'm not familiar with Val Young, but I like this song.

I love Val Young's voice! and her debut album has some great tunes on it.She's someone who really deserved more success and recognition.Interestingly,Rick James was gonna have her record "In My House" for her album,but Motown heard it and persuaded him to give it to the Mary Jane Girls instead.

When I made my Tupac documentary in LA for the BBC for the 10th anniversary of his death, I was lucky enough to speak to Val on the phone! Unfortunately, she was away in Hawaii at the time and unable to participate in the documentary.

Absolutely wonderful woman.

Anyone know why Val only recorded one album on the Motown label but moved to a smaller, lesser known label for her second disc "Private Conversations"? She was still working with Rick and one of the Tempations on that second album but the results were less than steller.

I loved the second album...

It was probably due to Rick's friction with Motown, I think.

I have the first album and love it. Now I gotta find the second album because the song you posted was straight FIRE!! I love it!

I know! I've had that album for years & I always skipped this song till it came out in the shuffle recently. Goes to show you how much you should give skipable songs a chance.

I've never heard her second album...gonna have to try to find a copy.

I hate the fact that Rick was feuding with Motown.It's why we never got a third album from The Mary Jane Girls.I think it's also why Val Young's first album wasn't promoted properly.Such a shame.

I'd love to make another documentary. I'm sure I will at some point but at the moment I don't really have any plans....

It was not bad at all. I got the twelve inch of Private Conversations. Radio in my area used

to rock the dub mix all the time. My favorites from the album were the title track, The

Sweetest Thing and Don't Make Me Wait which sounded like a song he had for MJG's.
