Just My Imagination (even though I admit I listen to Prince's versions more innocent) and Two of Us (we're on our way home guitar)

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Too many to list. Both bands are awesome and have so many great songs. Especially the Beatles.

I like a lot of different types of songs by each, but from my primary inclination of funk first would be Psychedelic Shack, Can't Get Next to You, Ball of Confusion, Masterpiece, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Shakey Ground and Standing on the Top for the Tempts and Come Together, Helter Skelter, I Want You, I Am the Walrus, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band and Get Back for the Beatles. There's a 6-pack from each for a cool dozen classics.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Sadly, I cannot compile a list of Temptations songs for you.

My all time favorite Beatles songs are as follows:

1. Across the Universe (I only wish this had been included on Beatles (White Album) as its masterful lyric and sweet melody deserved topnotch production)

2. A Day in the Life (really does live up to they hype)

3. Hey Jude (thank goodness Paul had John do the backing track on this. It fits sooo well!)

4. For No One (for me, this is Paul's best lyric. Tears "cried for no one." What a sad, lovely thought)

5. I'll Follow The Sun (the harmony!)

6. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

7. I Am the Walrus (drugs schmugs - I love this song!)

8. Come Together

9. Girl

10. Something

And some of these aren't their 'best' songs but man, they are fun to listen to:

I Me Mine, The Ballad of John and Yoko, Hello Goodbye, Dear Prudence, Run For Your Life, I've Just Seen A Face, One After 909, Wild Honey Pie, Happiness Is A Warm Gun

John is by far my favorite Beatle. His voice just does something to the listener. And he was a poet. A true poet. That said, I think it says a lot about their collective work that so many of my favorite songs of theirs aren't just 'John' songs.

both groups impacted the musical scene around the same time. they are both very significant on a social level, what with all the societal changes of the 60's.

For No One is great and so is Dear Prudence, but it should be in the Abbey Road it fits better than in White Album

It's nice to see "For No One" get some love. When Rolling Stone came out with their top 100 Beatles songs a few years back, my friend and I exchanged lists of our own and she'd never even heard of "For No One"!

"Dear Prudence" is a lovely song.

The sun is up/The sky is blue/It's beautiful and so are you.

Good grief was John Lennon talented!!!

Yeah...a bit random? What's the correlation?

I'm a huge Beatles and Motown fan so there are way too many songs to list here.

Yeah well, then we could include The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Mamas & The Papas, Big Brother & The Holding Company, The Supremes, The Bee Gees, Jefferson Airplane and The Jimi Hendrix Experience as well. wink

seems like a good idea. maybe you could come up with a thread circa; their impact upon the musical scene. i'll definently add a positive reply to the thread.

a bit of related trivia:

"Pure Smokey" is a song by English musician George Harrison, released in 1976 on his debut album for Dark Horse Records, Thirty Three & 1/3. The song was the second of Harrison's musical tributes to American soul singer Smokey Robinson, following "Ooh Baby (You Know That I Love You)" in 1975. Harrison frequently cited Robinson as one of his favourite vocalists and songwriters, and Robinson's group the Miracles had similarly influenced the Beatles during the 1960s. In the lyrics to "Pure Smokey", Harrison gives thanks for the gift of Robinson's music, while making a statement regarding the importance of expressing appreciation and gratitude, rather than forgetting to do so and later regretting it. The song title came from the name of Robinson's 1974 album Pure Smokey.

(includes some) songs written by smokey robinson performed by the temptations

Tempts-sing-smokey.jpg

^^^on this album some of the tracks (at least 3) were hits for the temptations.

about john lennon and his many tributes to smokey robinson

excerpt: http://www.smokeyrobinson.com/bio/

John Lennon of The Beatles made countless remarks regarding Robinson’s influence on his music. The Beatles had recorded Robinson and The Miracles’ “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” in 1963 and in 1982 another popular British group, The Rolling Stones covered the Robinson and the Miracles’ hit “Going To A Go-Go.”

now back to the temptations
