Joni Fans, assemble! Fave song on each album? No cheating! Only ONE song per album... Nobody ever said life is easy.
Mine: Songs to a Seagull: "The Dawntreader" Clouds: "Both Sides Now" (although "Songs to Aging Children Come" is one of my favorite Joni song titles) Ladies of the Canyon: Wow... this one is tough. But gotta go with "Woodstock" Blue: "Little Green" For the Roses: Geez, this is torture... maybe "Electricity" Court and Spark: "Free Man in Paris" Miles of Aisles: "Woodstock" Hissing of Summer Lawns: "Sweet Bird" Hejira: "Song for Sharon" Don Juan's Reckless Daughter: "Jericho" Mingus: "God Must Be a Boogie Man" Shadow & Light: Haven't heard this in awhile, but I believe the live version of "Banquet" was my fave Wild Things Run Fast: "Chinese Cafe" Dog Eat Dog: Not a favorite albim on mine, but "Ethiopia" Chalk Mark in the Rainstorm: "My Secret Place" Night Ride Home: "Two Grey Rooms" Turbulent Indigo: "Yvette in English" Taming the Tiger: "Harlem in Havana" Both sides Now: "Both Sides Now" Travelogue: Haven't heard it yet I left out the Hits/Misses packages, but go ahead and include them, if you want. I'm sick of this! Educate us, Gypsy. What has she done? What has her role been? And what work of hers would you recommend? By the way... couldn't you have created a new thread for this? [This message was edited Mon Mar 24 10:01:07 PST 2003 by Lammastide] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Just getting into Joni and only have this album - what would you guys recommend as a next purchase? My first recommendation would be to go in chronological succession as outlined in the thread so far. But if you MUST choose only a few albums here and there, I'd argue that her quintessential works are Songs to a Seagull, Ladies of the Canyon, Court and Spark and Hejira. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I like Joni a lot but only have a few of her albums.
Ladies In the Canyon - Big Yellow Taxi Blue - River Court & Spark - Raised on Robbery Hejira - Coyote (my favorite song from her...its even better on The Last Waltz) Chalkmark In a Rainstorm - Snakes & Ladders I've heard a lot about Hissing of Summer Lawns (including from a certain artist WE ALL know) ...how is it? I have never heard a thing from it. Also how is Miles of Aisles? These are the only other 2 albums I have been curious about from Joni. | |

[This message was edited Mon Mar 24 10:01:07 PST 2003 by Lammastide] I already created a thread for her weeks ago,and no one seemed to care. It would be better to go somewhere like allmusicguide.com to get a education on her "role".. By the way,I like Joni and I have heard Blue, the album everybody and their mama seems to love, but it just doesn't EXCITE me the way Laura's early albums do,it just irritates me that the people who go on and on about Joni never mention Laura. She's just as important as a groundbreaking female singer/songwriter/musician as Joni is,but most people still don't know about her, only thing is she was not as prolific. I have a feeling if more people would listen to those albums, they would probably feel the same way. The albums: (* =the MUST HAVES) The First Songs(originally titled More Than A New Discovery)-1966 Eli & The 13th Confession-1968 * New York Tendaberry-1969 * Christmas and The Beads of Sweat-(not really a Xmas album, despite the title)-1970 * Gonna Take A Miracle-she and the group Labelle record an album of covers of r&b/doo-wop/motown classics that sometimes sound BETTER than the originals, produced by the great Gamble & Huff -1971 * Smile-1976 * Season Of Lights(her first live album, has musicians like Andy Newmark,Mike Maineri,John Tropea,Richard Davis backing her up)1977 * Nested- 1978 Mother's Spiritual- 1984 Live at The Bottom Line- 1989(second live album, not as good as her first, but still) * Walk The Dog and Light the Light- 1993 Angel In The Dark- 2001 * (released after her death) The Looms Desire- 2002 (another live album but NOWHERE as good as the other 2 IMHO) The first 2 live albums are out of print at the moment, but you might be able to find them at Ebay.
