Before watching this, I made a guess that Singles, Purple Rain, Saturday Night Fever, The Bodyguard, Evita, Breakin', and The Virgin Suicides would all be on here.

If you will, so will I

oh HELL yeah... and im the biggest EWF fan ever...and that flick is comically unwatchable...the only good part is the opening credits where they are tuning up their instruments and rehearsing the Title Song...other that that, the film was a complete bore.... too much boring dialogue that didnt contain band members... all kinds of unintentional comedy, and not so veiled racism...a white guy named "Buck-Master" in charge of a black band?...really?

The Craft is an outstanding '90s soundtrack.

Rocky IV

Mostly fillers, but the standout tracks are still awesome. Better to have a high tolerance for Lexicon pharaonic reverbs and drum snares that sound like garage doors slamming.

- "No Easy Way Out" - Robert Tepper — It does not get more testosteroneous than this. Fuck Survivor and their lame hard rock ("Eye of The Tiger, "Burning Heart", yeech), this is the real deal. Eighties FM bullshit elevated to an art. Come on, shake your head, you know you want to.

- "Living in America" - James Brown — Of course, there are way better songs from the Godfather. But this is "Night Train" rebooted on Steroids, it's not supposed to be subtle. Actually, I never get tired of listening to James go through the U.S. cities, like a funky geography lesson.

- "Training Montage" - Vince DiCola — A synthesizer masterpiece. Basically an ode to the Fairlight. A great theme, astonishingly arranged. Just when you think it reached the climax, the last reprise pushes it a nudge higher, just like when you're working out. Which is precisely the point.
Connoisseurs will go for the sublime record edit :

If you can't help the flashbacks of Sly running in the snow vs. Dolph Lundgren all doped up, here's the movie edit, which dilutes the spirit by stretching it a bit too much.

9 1/2 Weeks

Mostly fillers here as well. But it has gems, some crystallizations of the eighties stylism (italian minimalistic design, venetian blinds, neons).

- "Slave To Love" - Bryan Ferry — Penelope, pe, pe, pe. The most sensual beat and guitars to have reached the eighties billboard. Ferry's singing is just one of these things you can't replicate. Great melodramatic production, puzzling mix choices. A classic.

- "Eurasian Eyes" - Corey Hart — The poor Corey Hart never truly got the public attention he deserved. He may not have the greatest voice, but the naive yet uncompromised passion of the vocal delivery, the doubled guitar, the spaced-out verses, are a fountain of youth for ears that got too blasé. "Never Surrender" is okay, but "Eurasian Eyes" carries mix subtleties worth of your earphones. Just wait until the drum kicks in.

- "This City Never Sleeps" - Eurythmics — A long time ago, Dave Stewart was still humble enough to pay attention to every detail. This is brilliant and depressing at the same time. It's paranoia, urban isolation, sexual obsession all rolled into one 21th century message of doom.
