My son is a huge X Japan fan. Sugizo made him pick up a guitar and learn it.

What's the saying about absence,so dont listen to music for awhile.

LOL the irony is that the beauty of recorded music is so it can be enjoyed whenever.

BUT, I suppose an arguement can be made for "being there" because you can't duplicate reality like that.

So while it's fun to listen to The Bee Gees and Donna Summer now, it's different then being around at the time when the songs were on the radio, everyone had the albums and you could watch disco instruction and Studio 54 news unfold on television.

Thriller is thrilling, but not half as thrilling as watching Motown 25, the Thriller video premiere and going to school when almost everyone loved it and "Beat It" jackets were being worn.

Does that make sense?

I miss Soul music...

There are artist/musicians making good music, the difference now is you have to search for them or find them by happenstane. I miss the days when I was somehwere or the radio played a singer or a band music that stopped me in my tracks. Most of what's being put out by the major labels is soooo bad... some want to blame downloading and now steaming for the decline in record sales. But these young people aren't fools... they know most of the shit beng called music sucks. Even so....

ID' and JoeBala have a thread called new music... I'd suggest you go over and checkout some of the music they've discovered. I've found some good music.
