George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, and The Family Stone?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could clarify something that just came to my attention, I've done a bit of internet searching but my connection is horribly slow atm, so I'd prefer to just post this and see if you guys can help.

Anyway, I noticed today that at this year's Glastonbury there was a performance by the titular "group" which appears to have been split into two setlists, first Family Stone tracks and then a P-Funk set. My question is essentially who exactly "The Family Stone" are, as I was unaware that anyone was still playing concerts under that name. I would have assumed Sly would be there, given that he appeared on the Funkadelic album that came out this year, and thus presumably would be included in a joint performance with George, but the BBC page about the performance doesn't mention him at all, which is odd and leads me to think he might not have been there. Can anybody help with this? I think there might still be videos available online of the performance, but my internet is too rubbish atm to watch them and even if I could I doubt I would be able to identify original members of the Family Stone at this age. Thank you.

Thank you. Family Stone Original Members Greg Errico (Drums), Jerry Martini (Sax) & Cynthia Robinson (Trumpet). Add to that Nate Wingfield (Guitar), Blase Sison (Bass), Phunne Robinson (Vocals) and Alex Davis (in the role of Sly). I've seen them a few times, and They are FUN-KAY!!!!! cool

Ah, thank you for this, good to here those guys are still doing stuff together, although it's a shame Sly isn't involved in some capacity. I wonder what the story is there, whether it's like Prince's apparent unwillingness to revisit the Revolution due to him having "moved on" musically and personally, or whether there's something else at work. I know Sly's stage appearances have been pretty ropey and erratic these past few years, but I kinda assumed that his appearance on the Funkadelic album was indicative of his recovering somewhat. Do we know what Sly is doing right now?

Phunne is Sly and Cynthia's daughter. She handles co-lead on all of their songs.

If you haven't checked out the show, it's worth checking out. Jerry, Cynthia, and Gregg sound good. It's not 1968-69, but it's good to hear songs like "Sing A Simple Song", "M'Lady", "If You Want Me To Stay", and "Family Affair" live, especially if you never had a chance to see the classic line up back in the day.

Yeah, I think I'll try and make an effort next time they're in the UK, I had no idea that those three were performing together anymore, hence my initial confusion. How long have they existed sans Sly?

i was lucky enough to see the Family Stone at a very small venue recently. I thought it was a joke when i saw it advertised. There must have been about 100 people at the gig, very funky & very cool indeed.

Worthing fucking pier?.. LOL!! http://englandevents.co.uk/worthing-the-family-stone/233878
