John Schneider ~ It's Now Or Never You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

If I remember correctly this was a big No. 1 hit for him on country charts. I think it was also on the pop charts. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

#14 is the highest it got on the pop chart and #4 on the country chart. It also made the Top 10 on the adult contemporary chart You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

He has several Top 10 singles on the country chart, but I don't think he had any more big pop hits although he did get on the Hot 100 in the lower regions. Country crossed over to pop radio more often in the late 1970s-early 1980s, as can be seen on the chart I posted. Dukes Of Hazzard was country, and so was Dallas in a way, even though it was set in a city. Those was really popular shows at the time. After MTV became popular, there was less country crossing over. Both John & Tom have done musicals. I remember Tom gave an interview once where said he was doing musical stage plays before getting cast on the Dukes.
