NEW Shalamar Song Coming Out Jody Watley is at it again, sending out a teaser for a new song from the latest incarnation of Shalamar. While I am excited it might be a full album in the works, the "teaser" is just a tease and it seems there is more to come. The song is released July 17th - curious to find out how it will sound?

There is no Shalamar without Howard Hewitt period. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

yeah,I agree.I'm tired of half-assed "reunions" and new music/tours that don't feature the original members.Enough is enough! Either do a 'real' reunion,or find a new name for the band.Stop cheating the fans.

If you want the original members, then you want Gary Mumford, not Howard.
Here's a pic from 2013 You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Howard was and is the better singer though, but yeah I know what you're saying. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

Howard was 3rd in line though. Gerald Brown replaced Gary. Gary is really an original, unlike Jody & Jeffrey. Gary sang on Uptown Festival and other songs on the debut album with other session singers. Jody & Jeffrey are just on the album cover art, they do not sing on any of the songs. Not bad, but i was expecting more of a dance type joint not a ballad, maybe the remix will bring it more alive Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

interestingly,Jody will be doing some solo gigs this fall.Could it be that her Shalamar Reloaded thing isn't working out?

Shalamar Reloaded is still around, but with this line-up of late eighties/early nineties acts they would not fit in, that's why Jody is performing solo.
I saw them live in Amsterdam last month and they tore the house down. I was pretty sceptical, of course, but the new singers are very talented and the sound of the band and singers was faithful to the Shalamar sound. They performed for 45 minutes, after which Jody performed her solo hits for another 45 minutes. One of the best concerts I've seen this year.
I do wonder how she managed to get the rights to the Shalamar name, though, when the "other" Shalamar has Dick Griffey's daughter in it. She must have very good lawyers!

Carrie Lucas (the singer who was married to Dick Griffey) recently filed suit, claiming that the Griifey estate actually owns the Shalamar name. We'll see how it plays out

big fuckin' deal... | |

Right, as some folks have already stated, basically there's two seperate acts currently touring as Shalamar:
- Jody Watley and her group of folks - Carrie Lucas' daughter, Howard Hewett (I think) and Jeffrey Daniels (I think).
So, the popular Shalamar line-up we're all used to is split between these two currently. I know there's a nasty legal battle potentially in the works. A lot of people who were close to Jody, Howard, and Jeffrey are in a SOLAR Records Facebook group and deliberate how disappointed they are with what Jody's doing, including Carrie Lucas herself. It will be interesting to see how all of this unfolds going forward.
