Was Beyonce A Homophobe? Interesting article on Beyonce doing a rainbow dance for LGBT Supreme Court ruling.
There was never any proof that Beyonce was a homophobe, but I heard it a lot ten years ago. At the most, I believe she wasn't gay friendly until it became okay to be so. What do you guys think?

Pretty much everybody used to be a homophobe.

Even a lot of gays start homophobic, then realize they are projecting. It doesn't help that most churches still teach hatred. Homophobia is engrained in the culture.

Almost every celebrity wasn't in support of the LGBT community until it was OK to do so a few years ago. I won't say they were necessarily homopobic but they weren't avid supporters of homosexuality until Obama endorsed same-sex marriage.

Yeah! I remember hearing Beyonce say back in the day that she believed marriage was between a man and a woman. She only changed her tone because its accepting nowadays. I don't dislike Beyonce but the woman is not genuine at all. The only pop stars female wise that I remember always standing up for gays that I know of was Janet and Madonna. And they did it when it wasn't cool to do so. BlackCat1985

Oh please, a lot of them are not supporting it now, they're just playing the "politically correct" game, what else do you expect them to do, they don't want to lose their money or fame. [Edited 7/2/15 14:35pm]

Madonna's supported LGBT since the 80s when it was 'unpopular' to do so. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

"I heard, no proof"....That's where the accusation ends...Accusing B-girl of being a Homophobe just because it's something to do...Shame......I heard there's a Man in the Moon but I have no proof...

Beyonce is one of the most fakest pop stars in the industry. Anything she does is strictly to enhance her brand.

Pretty much anyone that is a practicing Christian is a homophobe by default to me....until they state, or more importantly, actively show they are not.

Ya'll know I'm the LAST person to support Beyonce but I don't believe this one. She's too smart of a business woman. Why would she risk losing half of her fanbase? Gay men worship her. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Back in her DC days, she was quoted as saying she couldn't condone homosexuality as a Christian. I remember it because she was on my Gross List. Fast foward to a few years back, and she's saying it's a dream of hers to be a gay icon. Call it enlightenment? Hell, even Obama wasn't always completely pro-gay. At least on record. And now look. I know what you're saying BUT 27 years ago, Canada's largest Christian Protestant church, United Church, officially welcomed equal marriage. So, don't write 'em all off!

Today's society has become way too sensitive. I know some of the artists whose songs I like are rbigoted and/or their political views don't align with mine but if I like a song or an an artist's work, I tend to leave it at just that. I would take financial advice from Donald Trump, knowing that he has failed and came back from it and failed again and came back from it but I wouldn't listen to a damn thing he has to say about people or culture or politics for that matter. This whole idea of picking apart people and singling out one thing that is different and using it as a basis for vitriol has become rampant in society. I'm sick of people using it as a control tactic and I'm sick of it in general. Nobody should care about airhead Beyoncé's political stances, religious stances or her views on sexual identity. She is not an expert or authority on any of those things. She's just a damn performer. Is she good at her job? Do you like her songs? That's about where it should end, IMO.

This is close to how I feel. Unless they're on a crusade against my personal beliefs, what he or she thinks is pretty much inconsequential. You can still disagree on some things, agree on other things, and still be friends, do business or even lend help compassionately.

If it's true she that, she was coming from a place where she was young, naive and sheltered. Would have been better to not alienate lgbtq fans of dc back then.

People shouldn't be bullied into getting on board somene's cause. Its a path they have to come to on their own. SHe doesn't owe anyone support. If you expect her to do anything other than get onstage, sing and shake her ass then you are the one who is probably a little misguided as to what her role is. She is a singer/corporate whore. All pop stars are. They sing, dance and sling products for their corporate sponsors. Just because she doesn't go on stage and stick her tongue down another chick's throat wearing a shirt that says "Grrl power" doesn't mean she hates the LGBT community. If identity politics plays into every decision you make, then you may be a bit obsessed. I don't need for people to look like me in order to like what they do. I just need them to not suck at what they do and give me my money's worth if I'm paying for something they are doing. [Edited 7/3/15 14:01pm]

Maybe you misunderstood my post? I didn't make any comment as to how it would affect expectations of their work, just that there -is- a consequence to their opinion. It's not an inconsequential thing for someone in Beyonce's position to broadcast anti-LGBT opinions. That's just logic.

Yeah, mainly the young folks that her view is important to. I'm an adult that thinks for herself and is not swayed by any celeb. I'm not a worshiper, idolizer, or stan, in any way shape or form, and could not care less about anything Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay Z, Kanye, Kim, etc, thinks, says, or does.......now, the youngsters of today is a another story.
