French speaking fans help!!!

Okay about 6 six years ago I stumbled upon the song Le Meme Histoire by Feist and feel in love with this song. It's the audio equivalent of happiness no matter my mood this song transports me to indescrible joyous place. I went out and bought some Feist albums after hearing this and was disappointed SHE SINGS IN ENGLISH!! French is such a beautiful language to sing in.

I have since been on the lookout for French music with the same vibe as this song. Any leads to any artists with this sound would be greatly appreciated. If you have never heard this song the link is below.

Man all these were great except the co-penned Kravitz one, I generally don't like anything with Lenny however so soon as I saw it was written by him I didn't like it. Cats on Tress sound fine but I have enough songs in English! Could you recommend a starting album for Slyvie Vartan and Francoise Hardy?

In terms of a good starting album for Françoise Hardy I would recommend any of her first four album which contain her early plaintive and melancholic pop (kind of a very different expression of the familiar teenage yearning you can hear from countless US girl groups around the same time) before imo she got real MOR real fast. Confusingly they are all entitled Françoise Hardy, but the tracklist and cover art are all available on Wikipedia so that should help you avoid making mistakes. I decided to plump for the vinyl versions a while back, but if you want a more accessible summation of this period of her career the compilation called The Vogue Years is well worth getting first as a jumping-off point. As I said I don't really enjoy anything she made after that, but it's possible I've accidentally missed something good, so don't necessarily take my uninterest in her latter career as gospel.

I actually like Françoise Hardy's 1972 album Et Si Je M'En Vais Avant Toi. French vocals over American country music sounds like an odd pairing, but it totally works for me. Love the album cover too.

If you really like the Vogue Years compilation, there is a box set available of those early Françoise Hardy albums in full: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L7TMAE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=31QLBRKWEFJ4T&coliid=I3VXMQDTQ6HCIP

The ultimate in classic French pop for me though is Serge Gainsbourg. His 1971 album Histoire de Melody Nelson is my favorite French album of all time.

Cool thanks. I also stumbled across a new artist Salomè Leclerc. I want to marry her voice.

Nice choice, I was going to recommend Melody Nelson as well, a real classic smile

Musically I think it's a nice smooth piece of 80s synth pop. Lyrically, it's intentionally controversial, but harmless--no different to me than Prince's songs mentioning rape.
