Dixie Chicks...say what?!!

Given the rather harsh comments about our President by Natalie from the Dixie Chicks...just wondering what my fellow members of the org think. Agree with her? Or gonna
wing your Dixie Chicks cd out the window.

...yeah, an apology only AFTER she realized all the $$$ she may have been throwing out the window...

Who really cares anyway. The real funny thing about this is that based on the genre of music they make, who is there core audience??

I was proud of her. nod

Webster's dictionary defines: recant', v.t. retract; renounce.

I wouldn't call her statement afterward "recanting", more of an apology.

She said she was glad she lived in a country where people have the right to speak their views without fear of persecution... she also said she was sorry, but did not take the words back.

Dixie Chick Natalie Maines Apologizes For Anti-Bush Comment
Mon Mar 17,10:57 AM ET

(3/17/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Dixie Chick Natalie Maines (news) has apologized to President Bush (news - web sites) for the negative comment she made about him while performing overseas last week.

Maines said in a statement released late Friday afternoon (March 14): "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American."

The trio performed a live show in London on Monday (March 10) where Maines told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."

On Friday (March 14), radio stations across the country started to boycott the Chicks' music, and fans even gathered in some cities to throw away Dixie Chick CDs.

yes, consider that when thinking of her statement. but considering their core, also wonder why the hell they were in Europe when they said it confuse do they have an audience there?

You will keep asking that. biggrin

They obviously have an audience if a crowd turns up to see them, nothing like the success they have in America though, never heard of them having a UK hit.

Well, they must if they're touring there. When I first heard about it I didn't know it happened in Europe. The other ironic thing about this is; with Nashville artists, i.e. country music artists, their stated (and sometimes unstated) ideology tends to be every bit as to the right as many pop/rock/jazz, etc. performers are to the left. Not that I believe that every single recording artist adheres to these things. I guess I just never thought there'd be this type of brouhaha over something country music artists have said about a republican administration.

Right, it just wasn't expected from a Country&Western act. It all seems far too un-patriotic. smile
