Love this thread, always fun to see someone discover and rave about some great music!! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

I personally prefer Like A Prayer. It's a little more diverse in its sounds and lyrics. It has some serious and some more lighthearted dance songs. Ray of Light is great but sometimes the spiritual preaching gets on my nerves. LAP is a little more gritty and honest about life's not so great tough and sad moments as well as some fun pop stuff like Cherish. LAP has rock and R&B as well as just the electronica.

Both albums are great i like the most Ray Of Light

for many years,Erotica was actually my favorite Madonna album. It would still be in my Top 5,but I'm now torn between ROL and LAP for the number one position

I truly consider "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" to be the BEST Madonna song ever!

The best ones are Bedtime Stories and Like A Virgin. Ray Of Light was a great return after the departure of Evita and other changes in 90s music, but I never listen to it, and I mean never.

I never listen to Evita anymore, but it's the most shocking moment of Madonna's musical career. Sure, she doesn't have the vocal powers of others who have done it, but wow...her voice improved 500 percent and she gives the soundtrack so much personality.

Guess it's time for us to rank the Madonna albums again
I'm working on my list. This may come as a shock to some fans, but Hard Candy and Rebel Heart are gonna be very high on my lists.I enjoy these two albums tremendously,to the point where I had to move some of the other albums around on my list.

Madonna gets so much crap and it's so not deserved. Especially when all these other acts get all the smoke blown up Their assess. She was unstoppable in the 80s. Everything was Fire. She broke All the records not just because of all the image stuff but because the SONGS were perfect. Before they manipulated charts or simply acted as a co-credit to rack up the hits Really - she wAs unstoppable ! The immaculate is ridiculous!!!and is missing some great tracks! It's missing all these hits: -True Blue -everybody -Spotlight - huuuuge track on NY radio just never released as a real single -gambler - Same as above - not a us single it all over the radio -Where's the Party - same as above - it was basically a single in Ny where it was played to death -Angel - causing a commotion - who's that girl - physical attraction - another song played to death on the radio but not an official single - over and over - same as above - dress you up - burning up - keep it together - oh father this woman truly has "so many hits, so little Time"!

Here's what I wish Madonna's next project would be:
Write her autobiography and put together a multi-disc box set...release both at the same time, then do a greatest hits tour.
It's long overdue.Time to look back and celebrate what she's already accomplished.
Don't get me wrong,I love her 'new' music.Rebel Heat is brilliant.
but next time around,I wanna see her reflect on her life and career. And we all know she's got alot of great stories to tell Her autobiography is gonna be explosive!

I would like her to do an autobiography at some point but not yet. She's still vibrant and full of life. I don't think she should make her whole career about looking back so soon. Rebel Heart in its lyrics has a lot of looking back so hasn't she already done that? I don't think she should do that much looking back until she's in her late 60's or early 70's. I think one of the secrets of her enduring success is she doesn't look back too much, but keeps moving forward. So a project totally based around looking back would be at odds with how she has always conducted her career.

I know that she is still vibrant and full of life, but I'd like for her to finally celebrate all that she's accomplished....rest on her laurels for once.Unile most veteran artists, she stays pretty active, constantly working on 'new' projects. That's all fine and good, but I think it would be cool to do an autobiography and a box set filled with all the hits and rarities too.I also think that a greatest hits tour is long overdue.

. I was SO glad to see her sing that live in Tokyo during the CT! That, and a particularly compelling vocal performance on LTT at the final show, were the highlights of the set! I don't know, I don't really care for the idea of artists celebrating themselves. Seems a little too egotistical for my taste. I think it should be more up to the fans to celebrate the past accomplishments. If you want to celebrate her past accomplishments, you can get out the old albums, videos and concert DVd's anytime you want!
Since she is still in great shape and her voice is still good, I don't think there's a rush to do a Greatest Hits tour. She can still do that a little later down the line. I think it would be cool if she did a Greatest Hits tour where she did sing some of the older songs like the original versions maybe with just a band and not so many dancers. But she doesn't have to do that right away. And didn't she do the Reinvention Tour, which although had some new material had a lot of the Greatest Hits that people love to hear? So it's not like she has completely avoided doing her biggest hits.

Everything about this song is just perfect: her vocals, the arrangment, the lyrics, the message.
I actually got chills when I bought the Ray Of Light CD and heard this song for the first time.

There's nothing wrong with reflecting and looking back This is one thing that kinda annoys me about Madonna and Prince. They seem to want fans to focus on whatever they're doing now. They try to downplay their past.A few years ago,in an interview,Madonna referred to "Into The Groove" as "retarded" and she's said similiar things about some of her other classic hits.I appreciate that she's always moving ahead and still recording new music, but she shouldn't forget that it's those old songs that made her the iconic superstar that she is.

On recent tours, whenever she does the old songs,it feels like she's not too interested in 'em.Look at the MDNA tour: she did a brief version of "Papa Don't Preach" that seemed like it lasted only a minute, lol. She did "Like A Virgin" but turned it into a boring, draggy ballad.I want a full-fledged greatest hits tour where the old songs get the treatment they deserve!
You're right,though....the Re-Invention Tour did include alot of classic hits. That tour was more satisfying than the last two, imo.

Her latest album is not great, the best songs are the mid or down tempo, the uptempo not so grat with the exception of Livin For Love and Iconic. Best Night is a very good song and Devil Pray is the best of the bunch.

I think Rebel Heart is excellent. So many different moods and styles.Currently,my favorite song is "Body Shop".It's a sexy, fun track. This is the type of album where, every month or so,I will have a different favorite song.

On the last tour, she did do Like A Prayer, Express Yourself and Vogue quite close to the originals. I actually thought the slow version of Like A Virgin was one of the highlights. As you said she's not that interested in doing the older songs, so what makes you think her doing a Greatest hits tour would be good? I would rather see her do something she's excited about than going through the motions doing her old hits.
To me, the fact that Madonna and Prince focus more on the current time is what makes them interesting as artists rather than being nostalgia artists like Flock of Seagulls or someone which I find dull.
I generally enjoy her new material so I don't mind her focusing on that. The only problem I have is when she does oldies she tends to do the same ones over and over on each tour, like for example Like A Prayer, Vogue and Music. So if you see her on every tour, you always tend to get the same oldies. She has so many hits over the years I feel like she could do different oldies not repeat the same ones. According to her instagram, she is thinking of doing Dress You Up. Who's That Girl and True Blue. I think that would be great and a step in the right direction.

There will be a point where Madonna will have to play a bunch of classics to fill those seats, but her new album is too relevant to leave out of her set now.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think Madonna is in an enviable position where she can do a tour that's mostly focused on a new album with only a few old classics thrown in.Most veteran artists could never do this and sellout the seats.Having said that,I think a fun greatest hits tour would be nice, for a change.
I wanna hear stuff like "Causing A Commotion","Angel" and "Dress You Up"!
