"Jealousy" is a highlight of their debut album. It has an undeniably 'pop appeal' to it and should have been able to crossover.Great song! It was the fourth single from the album.
Great song. I still liked Boys and Candy Man better but that guitar riff at the end of Jealousy. Wish it was about a minute longer. What a rush!
yeah, that guitar solo is great. The song has alot of 'pop' appeal to it.If Motown had promoted this song more effectively,it might have been a pop smash.I could see MTV getting behind this song, but there was no video.
I think he did end up at Warner Brothers at one point.
Yep the Wonderful album
Which was anything but wonderful. Really bad move on his part signing with Warner at that point in his career. I know he got his last number one song off of that album but hardly anyone remembers "Lousey's Rap". Terrible song and album.

I agree,Wonderful is a very weak Rick James album.By that point, the drugs had ruined his creativity. He was writing lousy songs in the late 80s.The 1989 unreleased Kickin album was also disappointing.

You ain't never lied. Wonderful and I Believe In You may have been the
best songs on it. Hell I liked the Flag much better than that album.

I don't like The Flag, either. That was the first Rick James album that I was totally disappointed with.Nearly every song on that album sounds like "Party All The Time",but with 'serious' lyrics.
I think the previous album,Glow,is vastly underrated.
I feel bad for the Mary Jane Girls. After two hit albums and several hit singles, they were caught in the middle of Rick's war with Motown and didn't get the chance to move on and continue their success Things got so bad in 1987 that,at one point,Maxi was working as a secretary for Motown. The ladies had no idea if,or when, they would be able to continue their careers.Rick should have done the honorable thing and "set them free"....allowing them to move on.There was some talk back then that they wanted to work with Jam and Lewis on an album and we all know that album would have been huge!
Yup! I think Jam & Lewis would have probably taken them over the top and made them bigger Pop stars. But, then, at the same time, do you think with that kind of collab, they would have tried to water down JoJo's vocals? She had a big voice. Maybe too big for Pop radio.
I remember when Klymaxx started hitting the Pop charts in a major way. Lorena had that big, sassy voice that got kept them in heavy rotation on the R&B side but didn't quite go over well on Pop radio. But, when Joyce Irby took over lead vocals, she had that very light, sweet voice that wasn't as overpowering and they ended up with their only Top 10 song on the Pop side. Lorena was the lead vocal on "Man Size Love", which gave them a Top 20 Pop hit but, compared to previous singles, it was a much more calmer vocal performance for her (which didn't go over very well on the R&B side).

It broke my heart when I kept checking the record store for that release and they told me
they cancelled it. I think they could have had more success with the release of that album
but it may have been there swan song as we know music started changing in the late 80's.

I agree. It's a shame that things fell apart right when they were enjoying major success! "In My House" was a massive crossover hit. They were on their way to superstardom and then, boom! Everything stopped Oh well,at least we got one song from that planned album....
