she's doing everything exactly how i wanted her to for this era...remain low key, use social media, focus on core fanbase, make smooth r&b music, reconnect with jam/lewis...and i love it! still waiting for those tri-state tour dates, im excited to see her dance with all girls and it will be interesting to see what she's gonna do with those kid dancers.im so hyped to have her back on the scene.

How refreshing to hear a veteran artist make the kind of music the fans made them famous for instead of desperately playing catch-up to kids half their age. Well played Janet. No Sleep sounds vintage JJ to me. It could've been an outtake from the Janet album.... it's almost as if the last ten years of horrid techno music masquerading as R&B never happened.

wow, Don't Sleep indeed! Its SO MUCH BETTA upon second listen. She's never LED with a ballad, so I was thrown off (TTWLG was midtempo). Nice audio curveball. She's playing Detroit to the left this time, so I may have to make the trek to Grand Rapids, that'll be different. But yeah, this should get mad airplay and chart. Black radio is on her team (or SHOULD be), this song is perfect for their narrowness, but I like it!

Got tickets for the St. Louis show today. Very excited. Have never seen Janet live.
New single is pretty good. Defintely an old school Janet vibe. Cool chill-out song, but I'm waiting for a more dynamic single.
Just saw Floetry in St. Louis on Friday, and they were simply awesome.

i was enjoying this thread until so many pointless comparisons to madonna came up, really? is this 1993 and they are supposed rivals still?
can we just get past it, and celebrate janets new stuff without comparing apples and oranges all the time??

LOL...Janet fans can never do a thread that focuses on only HER.They always have to drag other artists into the discussion, lol. Not sure why that is.

- Thanks Militant. What do you think about it?

The song kind of reminds me of a slower Feels So Right or Put Your Hands On (2 of my personal faves). It's nice! It sounds like more of a buzz track than a lead/comeback single, though. Definitely not a "smash." "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

- Although its the first single, I think its serving as a set up to a straight up dance song that everyone is/was anticipating. Based on her track record with Jam & Lewis, she's following the "TTWLG->IF" format. Hell, you can even consider The Velvet Rope roll out with "Got Til Its Gone" to "Together Again" being the strong dance follow up single. -

Good analogies, and I hope you're right. The world needs a big Janet dancefloor smash for the summer of 2015. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

True, but I already love this song and have made it part of my summer 2015 playlist. Reminds me of a warm summer evening. [Edited 6/23/15 6:43am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

- Thanks! Yeah, I consider it the calm before the storm. Perhaps something more upbeat will be released closer to the album release or first set of tour dates. Everything done so far seems to be strategic.

We need to decide if it is "No Sleep", "No Sleeep", or the fan-stylized "No Sl33p".

But Cinny how can be it #1, 2, and 3 if we decide on a title?

her songs be catchy and well produced. When that element is taken out, you have blandness like this. suction doesn't make up for a missing voice.

I'm not JJ's biggest fan by any means, but it's simply not true when folks say she can't sing. You may not personally care for her vocals and granted, she doesn't have the most powerful voice, but why does she have to? Power is only one aspect of singing. Can we only enjoy female vocalists who sound like Whitney and Mariah and the army of American Idol try-hard warblers they've inspired?

I don't expect Janet to sound like Mariah or Whitney. of her albums looking for one track--anything, actually, that justified her fame. Although several songs were catchy, her voice was always the weakest part of the tracks. to have had Michael for a brother. มีเพียงความว่างเปล่า 只有空虚 Dim ond gwacter 만 공허함이있다 唯一の虚しさがあります There is only the void.

Let's see if the same ones complaining about Janet fans bringing other artists up will object this.

- I'd go with option #2, "No Sleeep" since that's how everything that's official has it spelled. So Cinny, What do you think of the song "No Sl333p"? [Edited 6/23/15 8:35am]
