Great artists who deserve box sets

Why don't these artists have box sets of demos/outtakes:

Peter Gabriel
U2
Paul McCartney
Paul Simon (not released tracks)
George Harrison
Prince (CB's not what I'm looking for)

Anyone else? Do any of these have box sets planned?

I agree completely...It would also be cool to see sets by

Lucinda Williams
Madonna (who I believe is releasing one in Dec)
Radiohead

***Madonna (yes, her box set comes out in December)---I once read a lengthy article about all of her unreleased recordings, and she has TONS of songs that she could use.

***Stevie Wonder---I was watching a documentary on his 'SITKOL' album, and a few people (including Stevie himself) hinted that he has MANY outtakes from this album.I also heard that he has numerous outtakes from all his other 70s albums too.

***Sly and The Family Stone

**Santana---like Prince,he has entire albums that have never been released (such as a 1996 album called 'Serpents And Doves',and a 1988 recording with Wayne Shorter and Patrice Rushen).

I wouldn't say "TONS". I've read the same article and she has 1 or 2 songs from each album that could surface. Not "tons" but by now, enough to fill up a discs worth of decent material, that's for sure.

It seems like Stevie doesn't WANT to release outtakes since all he wanted on his already released box is previously released material.

***Sly and The Family Stone

Looong overdue.

Not always. Joy Division have possibly the best one ever released and they only had a couple studio albums and were around from 1976-1980. But they definitely deserve it.

"Usually" is the operative word there.

Plus, it's a different situation really. Had Radiohead only released a few albums and broke up not too long after their debut, it still would most likely take longer for a box of their material to be released. Wasn't it in the year 2000, 24 years after their first album that the Joy Division box was released? Hendrix only released 3 studio albums, but his box was just released either last year or in 2001. And although I am talking about studio albums, I'm aware everybody has unreleased material.

They've deposited 60 new songs for their new album
which will be released this summer. Fcuz, the album will
only have aprox 11-14 songs on it.

They also have loads of songs from other sessions left
over. They play a lot of those live and a lot have also
ended up as b-sides. However, there are many many that
are still unreleased.

So they've got more than enough material I'm sure. The
question is wether or not it is TIME for a box-set and
at this time I would say "no".

I just want the new album with another couple of kick
ass singles backed with 3-4 new non-album songs each.

Their first official album didn't come out until 1979 and the box set arrived first in 1998 and then 2001 for the American release. So yeah, I guess that's a long time.

I think The Smiths are about due up for a good remastering and box set.

In the mean time: Epic just last week released "The Essential S&TFS" 2-disc set.ReMastered.It's a good set ,but to my ears ,the remastering didnt help much.Unfortunately,(im guessing here)the original recordings must not have been done properly(i.e.- the rythym guitar on 'Thank...Africa" still drops in and out)and Ive heard "Family Affair" sound better on some of Rhino's comps.Still ,this is a good set and easily replaces the former hits sets ( no "Que ,sera" tho sad )

The whole pfunk thing would make an amazing box set. Imagine all those unreleased tunes too and the stuff from the Clinton Family series added in there. It needs doing!!

I'd buy a box set from that cute little guy Steve, who used to host Blue's Clues

... If it has naked pics of him, that is.

Ohh an X box set would be superb. Good choice. Also The Ramones could do with one by someone who's actually listened to all their albums. They have a lot of very good latter day material (Mondo Bizarro was one of their finest)
