Thanks for the link. Hmm...I don't like this song. It sounds like Music and Don't Tell Me had a crack baby and named it American Life.

Interesting message, however.

Judging be the week it's getting released i think it stands an excellent chance of being her 11 #1 in the UK but probably it won't do well in the US thanks to the bloody war sad((

What does the war have to do with it? The song isn't about war. The video is, but that's been toned down. Madonna probably realized she'd look stupid with a war video when it might be over by the time the video came out. biggrin

Check it out y'all.

Felix is kicking ASS!!!

Pity Felix and other electro artists don't get pushed harder by the media, but then Justin Timberlake, Christina & Eminem are easy money.

Guess I'm in a minority here but I liked Die Another Day.
I think I'm going to find American Life doesn't lend itself to repeated listenings. The rap seems amusing the first few times.

I liked the Felix mix of DAD, but the original version didn't have a hook for me.

The rap in American Life is bearable, but it's a little cringe-worthy!

Eh, it's growing on me. But I think it sounds too much like all of her newer songs. It's time for a different sound...but that's just me.

I do like the rap part though, I think it's funny biggrin

That's pretty awful. The lyrics are worse than the bland music and melody. Somebody bring back Tony M, or Vanilla Ice, or somebody...Madonna cannot rap, even in an ironic, post-rock techno sort of way. Nothing original here, folks.

I don't think any other songs from the new album are circulating yet.You probably have one of her recent outtakes from the past few years, such as "Revenge" and "Like A Flower".Describe the song to me and I can tell you what it is.

LMAO...stop lying, you know you WANTED to hate it so you can use it as a tool in your "Madonna is not a real artist" argument...lol..

smile smile

don't you remember anything POSITIVE that I've said about Madonna? I used to be a fan of hers. I really would, even if it's just for nostalgia's sake, like to enjoy her music again. I loved ray of light and was incredibly disappointed with music. I am not against madonna in terms of enertainment value...i just don't think of her as an "artist". I grew up listening to that woman, she is part of my life experience. It really does disappoint me when i can't get into her stuff.

If I wanted electronic beats I would put in my air, daft punk, or ladytron CDs. I want what madonna is good at...good ol' fashion pop records without the pretense!

Yeah- it sounds completely derivative of the "Music" album. Her voice sounds off for a lot of the song- strained or something. The rap gets on my nerves. I like "Die Another Day" way more.

I actually love the rap, the music and her voice. I thought "DAD" was the lame effort.

My feeling is,this is not the type of song that people are gonna like the moment they hear it.It is definitely a "grower".It's not as instantly catchy or danceable as the "Music" single.Months ago,Maddy described the sound of her new CD as "stiff",and now we know exactly what she was talking about. This single sounds very stiff, indeed. But,the more I listen to it,the more I dig it.

As for the rap,I like it.I think it's meant to be kinda funny and not to be really taken seriously. It'll be interesting to hear the remix with Missy.Perhaps Missy will add a few of her own lines?

Here are the lyrics to another song on the album "X-Static Process" (written by Madonna and Stuart Price)---

I'm not myself when you're around
I'm not myself standing in a crowd
I'm not myself and I don't know how
I'm not myself,myself right now

(chorus)
Jesus Christ will you look at me?
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Don't really know if I should give a damn when you're around
I don't know who I am

I'm not myself when you go quiet
I'm not myself alone at night
I'm not myself don't know who to call
I'm not myself at all

(chorus)
Jesus Christ will you look at me?
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Don't really know if I should give a damn when you're around
I don't know who I am

I always wished that I could find someone as beautiful as you
But in the process I forgot that I was special too

I'm not myself when you're around
I'm not myself when you go quiet
I'm not myself all alone at night
I'm not myself standing in a crowd
I'm not myself and I don't know how
I'm not myself,myself right now
Don't know what to believe

(chorus)
Jesus Christ will you look at me?
Don't know who I'm supposed to be
Don't really know if I should give a damn when you're around
I don't know who I am

I always whished that I could find someone as beautiful as you
But in the process I forgot that I was special too
I always wished that I could find someone as talented as you
But in the process I foegot that I was just as good as you.

There is a rumor that Madonna's "American Life" video might NOT get shown on MTV.She is currently "toning it down" but it's likely that the MTV folks could still refuse to show it.No decision has been made yet.

To tell you the truth,I am kinda RELIEVED at this news (if it is true).I didn't wanna see Maddy having to take the heat for a violent,anti-war video while we are at war.I'm thinking that there would have protests to have MTV remove the video from their playlist and it could have gotten really ugly. Not to mention what this backlash would have done to her album sales. If her album is as great as it promises to be,I wouldn't want anything to stand in it's way.

If MTV does ban the video, she could always just sell it as a DVD.Or maybe enclose it as a bonus DVD with the CD.Or perhaps MTV will still show the video, but only in the late hours. It's really no big deal.

i'm still at that point, too! sad

Regardless it has been in my head non-stop since Monday...

I think DavidEye was right when he pointed to this song as a "grower" tho, and that's a good thing for me. I LOVED Die Another Day when it came out, listened to it non-stop for 3 weeks, then put the single back on my shelf and haven't had the slightest desire to listen to it since...

I'm definately excited for the remixes, any word on the release date for the single?

Also, is the "W" mag already on the news-stands? I looked at a local bookstore and couldn't find it...

The CD single comes out on April 8.It contains two tracks: "American Life" and "Die Another Day" (presumably the album versions of both songs).

The maxi-single,containing several remixes,is due on April 29,a week after the CD is released. One of the remixes,by Felix da Housecat, has already been sent to radio and you can find it all over the net (check out that link I posted above). There's a rumor that the Missy Elliott remix will be sent to R&B/hip-hop stations any day now.

I'm going out to Barnes and Noble on Friday to look for that issue of W.Many fans already have it, so yes,it has been released.

This song is getting very MIXED reviews from fans and DJs alike. One American DJ says "it sounds like a car alarm" (!!)...lol...he was obvioulsy referring to the second verse, where it has that weird electronic sound as Maddy sings "I tried to stay on top".

I've heard the single and i didn't like it. The problem lies in the execution. Music sounded to meticulate in places and so far the two tracks from the album are in the same vein. I'm sick of hearing bleeps and loops and sound effects. The music is way too overproduced and you know in two years the shit is gonna sound dated. I guess that's how it is today.

The link doesn't work. I was all primed for hearing it on radio but I guess they would rather play the same five Avril songs over and over again! I hate them! Anyone know if there is another link that will work. I'm going to try Kaaza but I know that it will result in copies of "American Pie" or non-Madonna songs. Whatever this song sounds like, it has to better than 50 Cent In Da Club every five seconds. 50 Cent makes Master P sound sopsiticated!

I just heard "American Life" (downloaded from Kaaza) and I like the song and think the rap is suppose to be funny. The bells and whistles are really cool and I think it is the superior verison of what she did on DAD. This could be a really good Madonna album. I like the fact that her writing (on this song and some of the "Music" album, anyway) is getting introspective yet kind of humourous (like Prince at times). This could be a really good one. I just hope radio will give this song a chance even though it doesn't fit into the "patriotic" playlist of clear channel.
