I'm surprised "Let's Go Crazy" wasn't the first song mentioned. From the church organ intro to the ridiculous guitar solo at the end, it's a killer of an opening song. [Edited 5/13/15 10:18am]

I knew it was going to come! I'll start with the very very best of all, the one that knocks you out from the first seconds, the mother of all opening tracks:
Like a Rolling Stone on Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited. Also: 1999- Prince Let's Get it on- Marvin Gaye Gimme Shelter- The Rolling Stones' Let it Bleed Running Up That Hill- Kate Bush' Hounds of Love Clandestino- Manu Chao Superfly- Curtis Mayfield The Payback- James Brown The Chokin Kind- Joss Stone's The Soul Sessions Right Place Wrong Time- Dr. John Beds Are Burning- Midnight Oil's Diesel and Dust Short People- Randy Newman's Little Criminals Mannish Boy- Muddy Waters' Hard Again [Edited 5/14/15 3:23am] [Edited 5/14/15 3:37am]

Black & White America by Lenny Kravitz Your avatar made me think of another one: If I'm In Luck I Just Might Get Picked Up by Betty Davis. That title alone is great! And Micky made me remember Johnny Guitar Watson: A Real Mother For Ya is another good one. [Edited 5/14/15 3:15am]

Digging your list, especially Got to Be Enough, Showdown and Holy Ghost. But speaking of Barkays, Let's Have Some Fun was not an opener, began side 2 not 1 of that album. Boogie Body Land was also not the lead song on that album. I submit Your Place or Mine to replace one of those. If you've got funk, you've got style.
