I remember reading Larry Dunn hated the direction Maurice took EWF in with this album. The album was just average imo. I thought both ballads were bland and weak. My favorites were Magnetic, Moonwalk, and Sweet Sassy Lady. I thought Moonwalk should have got more love. Don't laugh at my funk

I think "Could It Be Right" should have been a single. It has the same type of vibe and crossover appeal of "After The Love Is Gone"....a really good ballad! I am demanding that you pull out this album and listen to that song again
Maurice was caught in a tough situation.Columbia Records was putting alot of pressure on him."They wanted another 'Let's Groove",he said. But their classic sound was considered old fashioned by that point.By 1983,everyone was experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines.Electric Universe took alot of fans by surprise.I always say that if this album had been done by someone else,it would have been a smash hit.

I remember that too. It's not the Electrofunk MESS every1's makin' it out 2b. It's more like they went the way of all the other bands who were out at that time. If anyone I'm hearing in the mix, I'd have 2 go with The B.B. & Q. Band. It's got it's Electrofunk-ish moments, but it still sticks with an R&B mentality 4 the most part. The ballads, yes...a little on the weaker side as compared with past efforts, but y'know...not entirely bad either. Just avg. A new direction is always a frightening thing. Maurice done okay. I'm excited 4 this remaster, phunkdaddy! [Edited 6/10/15 13:40pm] Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Thin Lizzy - Vagabonds Of The Western World . Seismic shifts happened between the previous year’s Shades Of A Blue Orphanage and 1973’s Vagabonds Of The Western World. . Frontman Phil Lynott was still documenting working class life in the group’s native Dublin, and the band still featured guitarist Eric Bell and drummer Brian Downey, even if Bell was soon to leave; the shift was in the feel of the album. Between Jim Fitzpatrick’s lurid album cover which depicted the band in space, the new, hot-rod-like Thin Lizzy logo, and Lynott’s newly throaty howl, it’s possibly the first Thin Lizzy album on which they truly could be described as a hard rock band. . Vagabonds presented a swaggering confidence, a band buoyed by the success of semi-accidental smash hit “Whisky In The Jar,” and carved out a moody, dark sound by borrowing bits from the blues, folk, psych, and Celtic music. Check out “Slow Blues” for proof, and decide whether Lynott or the guitars win the wail-off that begins the track. . “Whisky In The Jar” had been a bone of contention for the band who felt it didn’t represent them. Pushed out due to their presence on package tours with rockers Slade and Suzi Quatro, it seemed to seal their fate, and their Vagabonds single, “The Rocker,” set out their stall for good. The weirdness and idiosyncracies of Phil Lynott’s early songwriting hadn’t been ironed out completely: “The Hero And The Madman” saw them try their hand at acid-fried cowboy rock–if such a thing ever existed. . After the album, and after Bell’s departure due to ill health and disillusionment with the music industry, Thin Lizzy were reinvented once again. Lynott recruited two guitarists and the band left Decca to record Nightlife for Phonogram. . Their big hits and glory years–beginning with 1976’s Jailbreak–were still ahead of them, but, with Vagabonds as a centerpiece, Thin Lizzy’s early years left behind a cabinet of curiosities.

Has anyone purchased the Stephanie Mills "Tantalizingly Hot" CD yet? The reviews are diabolical! I am holding off purchasing it in the hope it will be re-pressed.
Was the image of Stephanie in the pool from the original gatefold version of the LP included too? [Edited 7/6/15 5:53am]

I've been in contact with soulmusic.com and they are assuring everyone they are working on repressing the CD using better masters, which will be availalbe shortly. No, the original album gatefold was not included in the CD booklet, which was really surprising to me. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

That's a shame! That album had some great artwork although artwork reproduction has never been Soulmusic.com's focus. Good news on the repress. I'll wait until I can definitely get my hands on the new edition.

It wouldn't be cheap to have to repress either. Particularly for a small label like that. It's disastrous but a credit to SMR that they're at least trying to make it right. Too bad they didn't pick up on the issues before it was given the go ahead to press!
