MR. MISTER - welcome to the real world

LABEL: Rock Candy RELEASE: 22/06/15

Contains Six Bonus Tracks / Features the hits singles Kyrie and Broken Wings / 16 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork, rare photos and new interview with the band.

Although Mr Mister achieved colossal commercial success there has always been a vast under appreciation of their musical worth. Unfairly viewed by many as a faceless mid 80 s pop rock band, they eventually scored two worldwide hit singles, their sound showcasing technical ability far beyond the level of musical proficiency normally expected. Indeed, there is an argument that elevates Mr Mister into that rarefied breed of highly respected AOR acts such as Toto, Chicago and Steely Dan. Based in Los Angeles, the band was originally formed by Steve George and Richard Page (later adding über drummer Pat Mastelotto and guitarist Steve Farris). Page and George initially recorded unsuccessfully as Pages before changing members and switching their name to Mr Mister, they were then signed to RCA Records by Paul Atkinson, a former member of revered British psychedelic outfit the Zombies.

Welcome To The Real World , was the band s second album and saw them facing a make or break situation. Fortunately it was a happy ending, with the album producing two #1 hit singles, in Broken Wings and Kyrie , and going on to sell in excess of two million copies. Co-produced by former Yes soundman Paul De Villiers, the album showcases a collection of highly polished tracks, fusing lyrics, melody and showmanship into one glorious clutch of tracks that actually owe as much to progressive rock as they do to catchy pop.

Track listing:

01. Black/White
02. Uniform Of Youth
03. Don't Slow Down
04. Run To Her
05. Into My Own Hands

this is a whoppping album with MANY great songs! back then in '85 some where pissed that the younger ones split to do their own thing, and many slagged Masterpiece right from start, cause it "just could not possibly be as good as the albums from the glory days".

not me. I always loved it. "May I" was obviosuly made in heaven, Stevie Wonders "Stay Gold" was also fantastic, Skip Scarboroughs "My Best Was Good Enough" wonderful... hell I even liked the cheesy "Most Beautiful Girl" remake smile

May I

Stay Gold

Really interested to see what they add to the Electric Universe remaster. That album got alot of criticism from fans and critics, but I like it.Times were changing and the band had to adapt to those changes. It's an interesting album with some great tunes.

It's missing 5 or 6 albums from the 1960s and a few 1950s singles too, because they were on other labels. RCA & T-Neck are owned by Sony. Tamla, Wand, & UA aren't.

Cat Stevens Tea For The Tillerman on Numbered Limited Edition 200g 45RPM 2LP from Analogue Productions

New 200g 45RPM 2LP Pressing / Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes by George Marino at Sterling Sound
Limited to 3,500 Copies, Gold Foil Numbered
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Analogue Productions has upped the ante and is introducing Cat Stevens' 1970 masterwork Tea For The Tillerman on 200g 45 rpm double vinyl. If you thought the 33 1/3 version was something to behold, just wait until you hear this. AP's license to reissue this classic is nearing expiration, meaning these 3,500 copies - each gold foil numbered - will become increasingly collectible.
.
In 1970, Lee Hulko at Sterling Sound cut Tea For The Tillerman for A&M Records in the U.S. and Island Records in the UK using a Telefunken M10 tape machine and a Neumann VMS 66 lathe with a Neumann SX68 cutterhead. Hulko started Sterling in 1968 and was its original mastering engineer. He's considered among the first engineers to advance mastering from just transferring music from tape to lacquer to an art where attention is paid to all the details that result in better sound. AP actually found Hulko's original mastering notes from more than 40 years ago. It's incredible, but Sterling still has all of their notes filed away.
.
So, it was originally cut at Sterling - as were all of the early original Cat Stevens albums - and the tapes were last used at Sterling. How appropriate then that they should go back to Sterling for this monumental reissue. Using the original tapes, George Marino handled the mastering this time. He used an Ampex ATR-102 tape machine, another significant point of interest. While Ampex has long been revered for their sound, they had never made a preview version so that a mastering engineer could cut a lacquer from an Ampex machine. Mike Spitz at ATR Services made a unique preview modification for Sterling so that they could cut this record using an Ampex. Marino then used a Neumann VMS 80 lathe with a Neumann SX 74 cutterhead.
.
"I think we've gotten something quite a bit better than what was originally issued," Marino says. "I think this version is much more representative of what was on the tape. And that's not a criticism of what was originally done."
.
The widely hailed Tea for the Tillerman came only seven months after the start of his comeback with Mona Bone Jakon and its arrangements, performances and songs are all enveloped in a confident grace and lingering beauty. Stevens was able to pull off a rare feat with Tea for the Tillerman in that he was able to achieve pop accessibility without having to sacrifice artistic relevance.
.
The album is also noteworthy for having four of its songs "Where Do the Children Play?," "On the Road to Find Out," "Tea for the Tillerman" and "Miles from Nowhere" featured in Hal Ashby and Colin Higgins' 1971 black comedy Harold and Maude. A folk-pop landmark immediately recognized the world over by its title alone, Tea for the Tillerman has forever been and will always be an audiophile reference LP!
.
Features:
• New 200g 45RPM 2LP pressing from Analogue Productions
• Mastered from the original analog tapes by George Marino at Sterling Sound
• Plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings
• Stoughton printing glossy gatefold jacket
• Limited to 3,500 copies, gold foil numbered
.
Cat Stevens Tea For The Tillerman Track Listing:
1. Where Do the Children Play?
2. Hard Headed Woman
3. Wild World
4. Sad Lisa
5. Miles From Nowhere
6. But I Might Die Tonight

Seven years in the making, Never Satisfied is Now-Again’s collection of legendary soul and funk singles by Atlanta Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Richard Marks. This 21-track anthology follows Marks’ stylistic development, from his earliest work for the legendary Tuska label, c.1968-1972, through his more mature releases on the Shout label and smaller regional labels like Note, Free Spirit and RSC. It also includes two tracks never released in any form, found on reels Marks had maintained in his Atlanta home.

.

Marks’ story is that on an unsung soul and funk hero; a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter whose number was in Al Green’s, Barry White’s and Eddie Kendricks’ rolodexes, but whose talents have only been heard in sporadic bursts since his 45s were released and disappeared into Atlanta’s urban expanse.

.

This is the story of a father and husband who managed to keep his family together as he gigged the third shift six nights a week. The story of a man who wished for more and whose talent is overdue for reassessment.

.

He and his music are unknown to the majority, but to an obsessive minority, he is a lightning rod, that singular point at which numerous Southern soul and funk musicians converged and exploded, spreading wondrous music in all directions. Marks’ impeccable run of 7” singles, released largely on tiny, local labels, are the stuff of legend, and are hen’s-teeth-rare.

.

Marks died of cancer in May of 2006, never having issued an album, or ever granting an interview. Given the caliber of his recordings and the near complete lack of information available about him before the issue of this anthology, Marks stands out as the most mysterious talent to originate from Atlanta, a city that birthed no shortage of genius, from acclaimed worldwide (the Mighty Hannibal), obscure yet celebrated (Lee Moses) and local, but well documented (Tommy Stewart).

Kent's latest dip into the Motown vaults will thrill all collectors of the company's late 60s/early 70s repertoire, particularly those who love the sounds of Group Soul. The Fantastic Four are revered by Motown fans. The Lost Motown Album presents the planned 1970 long player in Motown's plan for its running order augmented with more than a dozen gems from the same period. A whopping 14 of these have never seen the light of day before. All tracks are presented in Motown's original mixes. As ever, the copious illustrations and annotations live up to the quality of the music.

AmazonUK has it for alot cheaper ($55.76).....assuming that price doesn't change between now and the release date.

After it's officially released, you may wanna check Ebay and look for some cheaper copies.I pre-ordered mine from AmazonUK.
