You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

David got over it and has accepted his success and had toured since the 80's and has done Bway/Vegas shows. The guy has talent and Shaun is a writer/director and has wrirtten many TV series. He did one of the Amazon Pilot shows(Hysteria). It was actually good, but they didn't pick it up as a series.

This was also a good series he wrote: http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._series%29

I remember David Cassidy starred on an episode of the Police Story TV series where he played an undercover officer at a high school. It was well received by critics as well as some songs he wrote for the multi-part episode. He had a short-lived spin-off series from that. I remember quite liking the songs he wrote for both, thinking they were a move up from the teeny-bopper songs.

This thread brings back a memory of my friend Betty O. who had this mag centerfold of Rick Springfield taken from her by an anal retentive school counselor, who chewed her out and sent her to the principal's office because he though it was porn. lol

Hot stuff! That may be a racy picture but in comparison to pics these young artists take today, it's pretty tame. Rick Springfield must have been pretty popular with the teens, I can imagine?

Pre-teens as well! Betty O. was a huge Monkeys fan as a little kid in elementary school. LOL The Monkeys were her biggest topic of conversation besides horses. LOL Looking at these old centerfolds, it isn't any wonder that those same girls were swooning over sexually ambiguous pop stars later in the 80s... lol Like Prince. MJ, too! Well, of course, there were others like David Bowie who came before... The attraction of male AND female attributes... You didn't find that with Frank Sinatra, who was arguably the first teen heart throb singer.

I have to check out the De Franco Family and that fake looking Jackson Five group now.

Since The Eight Minutes has both male and female members, they are more like The Stairsteps and The Sylvers than the Jackson 5

I wonder if David was actually cool with Shaun becoming a teen idol or was he secretly pissed?

I don't know if they were considered teen idols, but the Bee Gees did have lunch kits

My own fave heartthrob band of the 70s is probably the Partridge Family - some real good pop songs in there, sung well by David Cassidy. Also innocent and very sugary, but more sophisticated.

You know-- there's actually some pretty good Partridge Family albums:

-Up To Date
-Shopping Bag
-Sound Magazine

Those are my secret albums I enjoy but wouldn't play in front of anyone- but they're great 70s pop albums.

David Cassidy had a solid vocal. When I finally saw him live he was drunk onstage

The '70s were horrible, fashion-wise lol

But I nominate: Farrah Fawcett, John Travolta, and young Michael Jackson
