70s Teen Heart Throbs! Don't ask why or how but I've taken an interest recently in Leif Garrett. Ok I admit it, I saw his Behind the music story and heard I was made for dancing and decided to check it out. What a cute little catchy number. I got his greatest hits and actually dig it. Now I'm considering Shaun Cassidy. I read about an album towards the end of his career called Wasp that was supposed to make his image edgier. Anyone remember the days of these guys or like this kind of music? I just like the disco rock vibe and how innocent was back then.

I remember hearing something from when Shaun tried to go "dark and edgy" and it wasn't very good. His first album with Hey Deena on it was kind of a hit and remember it sounding pretty close to Leif's albums, so you might check that out.
My own fave heartthrob band of the 70s is probably the Partridge Family - some real good pop songs in there, sung well by David Cassidy. Also innocent and very sugary, but more sophisticated.

Shaun seems like he was the poor man's David lol. I'll check out the album you suggested. I teach dance and choreographed to I was made for dancing and my students love it. I also like Leif's version of Surfing USA. What a cute catchy song.

I had a t-shirt with Leif Garrett on when I was a teenager. He was very cute back in the day.

If i found a vintage shirt of his, I would rock it now. How come those artists did so many cover songs? Its just interesing. I don't see child stars doing that now.

Remakes have been common since the beginning of the music business. That's how songs became standards, many people recorded them. The idea of self-writing being important mainly started when the rock press like Creem & Rolling Stone came around. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

In the 70s i get the impression it was a lot more of a "thing".

Now Rod Stewart is doing them. If you look at a lot of veteran acts today, they're the ones releasing remake albums or re-recordings of their hits with newer acts. I also think modern songs are remade less than pre-1980s songs. Hip hop is one of the most popular genres of today, and the songs generally doesn't really translate to another act. Anybody can sing Yesterday by The Beatles or I Heard It Through The Grapevine, but most rap songs only make sense with the original performer, especially since rappers often mention their names on their songs. That's true, there's hardly any hip hop covers. I guess the lyrics are too tailored to themselves to cover?? Damn 70s teen pop is so good. I'm really digging it. Why cant there be a resurgence of this genre? Let's get those feathered hair cuts and bell bottom jeans going. Any of you guys still listen to this stuff ? [Edited 4/30/15 14:58pm]

Donny & Marie still perform together and separately, but I think the other Osmonds are mostly retired, although they did a 50th anniversary tour a few years ago. Try Josie and The Pussycats. One of them is Patrice Holloway, the sister of Motown singer Brenda. Another member, Cheryl Ladd, later became an actress on Charlie's Angels. Who remembers this one? https://www.youtube.com/w...3Iw2qYtN8A Defranco Family.
My sister was editor of a teen mag called Flip and so I was exposed to all the Bobby Shermans, David Cassidys, etc. Then there was also the Sylvers and a little act known as the Jackson 5. If you've got funk, you've got style.

We can diss today's teeny boppers, but you have to admit at least they have a bit of talent, even when they make us want to puke--Taylor Swift, Beiber, Backass Boys. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Since The Eight Minutes has both male and female members, they are more like The Stairsteps and The Sylvers than the Jackson 5 You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. This thread brings back a memory of my friend Betty O. who had this mag centerfold of Rick Springfield taken from her by an anal retentive school counselor, who chewed her out and sent her to the principal's office because he though it was porn.

David got over it and has accepted his success and had toured since the 80's and has done Bway/Vegas shows. The guy has talent and Shaun is a writer/director and has wrirtten many TV series. He did one of the Amazon Pilot shows(Hysteria). It was actually good, but they didn't pick it up as a series. This was also a good series he wrote: http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._series%29 Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!
