Confunkshun - Wanted them back, but not like this

So disappointed in the new Confunkshun album. I have followed them since their heyday and been a fan all the way, but where is THE FUNK?! Not only is there nothing approaching any of their dozens of fantastic funk jams (i.e. Chase Me, Confunkshunizeya, Ffun, Too Tight, Got to Be Enough, Shake and Dance With Me, Ms. Got the Body, etc., etc., etc.) but the overwhelming number of ballads don't come close to their work like Let Me Put Love on Your Mind or Love's Train. Their uniquely identifiable sound is watered down too in what amounts to yet another dull, mellow and rather generic adult R&B release. Compare this to the last releases by the likes of The Time, Graham Central Station and Funkadelic, who all came back after long hiatuses, and there is just no comparison. Why is it so hard for most of the great funk bands to bring it like they used to? Why is it so many of the rockers keep rocking while the funkers fizzle? If the Stones, AC/DC and ZZ Top can keep rocking why can't Earth, Wind & Fire, Confunkshun and The Isleys keep the funk alive?

Confunkshun should change its name; it's false advertising. What do you all think?

Except for the last two songs it sounds more smooth than funky. I'll stick with the George Clinton album.

Thanks for your review.I love Con Funk Shun, but I'm probably going to skip this album.I think it's a shame that these funk bands can't come back and bring the funk anymore. They should be kickin' ass, showing the youngsters how it's done!! I saw the video for the first single awhile back and it was one of those lame, predictable midtempo R&B grooves confused

Why do we have to wait for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars to make an uptempo number?? lol

I know exactly what VainAndy was complaining about for years, especially when the original funk bands bring out dull music.

I was really disappointed in this album too. Didn't buy it for sure but will still
enjoy their live show.

I actually like Your Night. I remember posting it awhile back. This seems to
be as good as it gets along with maybe 2 more tracks. I'm not one of the belief
that all the funk bands must give us an album chock full of funk but just good material balanced with uptempo grooves and ballads.

^^ but from a band that's named Con Funk Shun, you would at least expect the album to have alot of truly funky jams. This album is dominated by slow and midtempo grooves confused

I haven't heard the album yet, but if Your Night is indicative of the album's overall sound(which u guys have said it is), then I'm disappointed.

The song's not that bad. Its just it sounds a little too much like the stuff that's already out there(imo). Overall, Michael still sounds good, and i do like how the song picks up, towards the end.

Anyway, i wish the mighty Confunkshun, luck, and hope they will stick around. Maybe next time they will make a funk, Confunkshun, album.

George Clinton helped push all the 1970s funk bands further and deeper into the funk and musical exploration than they would have otherwise treaded. They all knew they had to up their game after hearing and seeing what P-Funk was bringing. Maybe now with George cleaned up, putting out a book and an incredibly ambitious Funkadelic set (and with Parliament on the way) while touring relentlessly at 73 years of age(!) will inspire the Cameos, Lakesides, Isleys, Gap Bands, Suns, Bricks, etc. of the world to dig deep and bring it all the way or close to all the way back themselves. George has thrown down the gauntlet and is still carrying the torch -- let's hope others are similarly inspired. Wishful thinking anyway.

it's because black music is dead......you can't have a music when u no longer have a culture.....black music died a long time ago when real r&b was pushed out to bring forth the pop ascension, which relied on the very cutlure black msuic was cultivated from in order to exist, now that it's all been tapped out, there's nothing left

Rock N' Roll never went anywhere. It's still alive and well. Funk died in the 80's. Hip-Hop slaughtered it. fro machinegun machinegun machinegun dead

I thought it was Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson, Anita Baker, & Clive Davis, or at least that what Vainandy says. razz
