IS this in stores or do you have to order? I went to Best Buy but didn't see it.

It should be in stores; I got my copy from my local independent. If they don't have it, demand it.

Best Buy is not stocking the CD. Go to an indie record store, or even better, visit Amazon.com.

I found me a CD copy a week ago in a local record store here in Helsinki, Finland. Quite funny if it's hard to find in record stores in the US. I've listened to it about six times now, but I still haven't made up my mind about it. It's definitely a grower though.

I gotta problem with the mastering of this cd.

It sounds like it has a "film" on top of it - it's a bit too murky for me. I solved this problem in
the whip by turning the treble up quite a bit, but even in the headphones, the mastering is
weird.

On The Jungle Floor also sounds kinda "dulled" a bit. Anyways, it's a great album but boy, oh,
boy is Popular still an album that must be dealt with if you're an R&B head.

Why do you think Popular is his best (at least it seems that's what you're saying)?

Lemme clarify:

Popular is my favorite because I think it's his most inventive, most melodious, and most interesting
album whilst containing his strongest batch of songs. Compositionally, it reminds me of the pinnacle
of Prince's work, Parade, in just how explorative and quirky and well crafted it is.

If I'm not mistaken, lastdecember broke it down years ago thusly: Blue Note, the record label,
had no idea how to market an off-kilter, idiosyncratic R&B album that was more daring than re-
motely accessible. So, they balked at its release; but not without offering to give the masters
back to Hunt if he returned the Blue Note recording advance. Hunt was unwilling to do this, so
Blue Note, owners of the music outright, ultimately shelved it.

Late to the party, as I just purchased this CD yesterday. I LOVE this CD, an immediate classic for me.

I hear Hendrix, D'Angelo, Bilal, Prince, Sly & the Family Stone, 60s psychadelic rock, early Kravtiz (which is of course a whole hodge podge of things itself) among other things. Yet, it's all uniquely him. Kudos.

This along with the new Tamia CD made it a great music weekend. And, Floetry in concert!!

Listening to this CD was painful. I think he's in the Bilal realm but not as good. I like Van Hunt but this is a miss for me. Now the track, Teach Me a New Language is a big winner. I may play that on repeat.
