Basically for that generation of artists, "huge" no longer means you have a record on the charts that everyone is listening to. "Huge" means you got a half hour on Home Shopping Network and maybe, sold a bunch of $250 VIP concert tickets.

And yeah going country is a thing. I just saw Steve Tyler doing Jaded with his new band, and apart from the cowboy hat and maybe a mandolin player there was nothing country about it. Same hollering vocal style, same Be My Baby beat. It's pretty obvious he's not put any thought into how to actually "go country" just put on a hat and unplugged the amps.

Some of the popular acts today like Taylor Swift & Rascal Flatts is not really country either. It's not even country rock.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Amen!!

BTW, has anyone found a link to something showing the quote Madonna supposedly made?

IMO, Madonna is a legend and icon, whether you love her or not.

BUT

She really doesn't act it. I follow her on social media and she honestly acts like a teen star. I remember some little just-debuted-on-the-scene pop tart like Ariana Grande (I think) complimented Madge (who proceeded to go crazy and totally suck up to her). She did the same when Drake complimented her. It's cool that she's humble (well, not really, because she's obsessed with the term "Bitch, I'm Madonna" which is really annoying lol), but she should act like an icon imo. She's still into being a "hip" pop star. It's weird. And that's why she gets so much ridicule.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

This has been said for SO LONG now, and people are just getting it now, when its way too late and nothing is going to change till it all crashes and burns. As said before when the marriage of MTV and SOUNDSCAN and all of that became the genesis of how labels did business, how they promoted how they chose artists etc...it all slowly disolved. NOW granted the artists that benefited from MTV were great artists like Madonna Michael Prince etc BUT all would have gotten on the radio some way, Michael was already on the radio and so was Prince. WHAT MTV led to was a new generation were your talent was not the number one factor, your look was, granted this was something that was NOT NEW, BUT, this is the business model across the board. When you have that climate OF COURSE you will get age-ism, and now that is all you get.

Problem is that people will hear this and say OH YOUR JUST BITCHING cause your old artists don't get played, which is so not the case, I could care less about the radio, i stopped listening when this new business model invaded like a cancer. And of course my favorite argument, OLD ARTISTS dont make good music anymore, blah blah blah, another stupid comment and base-less answer.

If you scan down a chart from say mid 80's just when MTV was on the scene but not taking over, and not making deals, you could find all ages, shit, Aretha and Tina charting with young new artists like George Michael Madonna, or legendary ones like Springsteen or the Stones all in the same top 40, tell me honestly that NOW those artists if they were at the same place as then, and age, would be charting together in this business model, if you can honestly say that would be the case you are fucking smoking some good shit.

It is amazing to look back at those old charts and see the variety of artists and songs that were in the top 40 (and therefore being played widely on the radio) back then...

Agreed 100%

She's trying to say: I'm still young, I understand new trends, teens... everything! lol

this chart present everything that was once great around the recording industry...not the music industry, but the recording industry

the one element that made it so great was balance, you had the full range of musical genre presentation, the full range is what allowed music to be so exceptional then.....you had artists from various age groups who were succeeding because they were given the opportunity to do so.....you had more to look forward to, you had more that you could learn from, to develop your outlook on life in the creative realm, you had artists who had truly developed their talent and studied their craft and it reflective in the quality of music that has been sampled to death over the past 28 years.......

Ageism did not exist then

all that changed in 1987 when at least two generations of artists were phased out, entire genres of music were phased out too, where everything became centralized and centered around two areas of focus: Youth and Hip-Hop...and it was all deliberate too

and that's why the industry is running on fumes in the present day

Why hasn't JanetSerbia been banned yet? This poster starts all these troll posts in order to prove Janet is better than Madonna. It is getting a little ridiculous and I thought Prince.org had higher standards. By the way, both Janet and Madonna are great!
