Good For The Gander was officially released a few years ago on a compilation

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

True I heard that one years ago but still put it here since it's from that shelved album.

I've seen a picture of a 45 for the song too from the 1970s.. It might have been a promo disc. I've seen cases where a promo copy of a song is sent to DJs, but the song never comes out or is cancelled.

There was a few articles back in the day actually promoting the album before it was shelved.

Tito has an unreleased instrumental album at Motown. I think there is over 100 unreleased Jackson 5 songs

What's the legendary list of songs recorded by the boys? I think 469. Probably less than half have been released.

I don't know the exact number, but I've heard they recorded around that amount in total, released + unreleased. I think that was just the group, not including solo stuff.

You're not including the MJ, Jermaine and Jackie era J5 songs? That's about 100 songs or so right there.

Aren't some of those really Jackson 5 though? On the solo albums out now, on some of the songs the brothers can be heard.

Songs like Got To Be There (Maybe Tomorrow LP outtake) and Thats How Love Goes the brothers are in the backgroud. Their later era solo tracks like MJ's Just a Little Bit or these tracks from Jermaine the brothers are not in the background.

Since Jermaine stayed till around 1983, he might have unreleased stuff from the later albums and probably isn't included in that number.

nod Yep. I think 'Buttercup' was one of the songs and it's been released on a compiliation album. I wonder though whether the unreleased song are really alternative takes or actual completed songs. I'd say some of the songs have been released now on 'Unreleased Masters' (if thats the title has 12 songs IIRC) 'Rare Pearls', ' and there's the Live albums which have been released in the past few years. I remember reading they recorded hundreds of songs at Motown but again I think MJ said something like they recorded lots of different takes of 'I Want You Back' to get it perfect so those takes could be part of the unreleased tracks.

I doubt they are part of it. I wanna say I Want You Back was recorded 102 times or some crazy number. They wanted to get it right.

There is still two different versions of this song heard. One that was used on Hollywood Palace and their cartoon.

Who's Loving You, 2 versions.

Ect.

Yeah, I don't think alternate takes are considered different songs.

I'm So Glad You Chose Me was another early B Side. It should have appeared on the expanded Mahogany SDT.

So they worked with Stevie Wonder in 1973
right before he started making some of
his greatest music. And Motown just sat
on the album instead of releasing it.
Wow.
eek

Makes no sense, huh? disbelief how could they reject an album produced by Stevie Wonder in his prime?!
