It's been seven years since the superstar's last studio album Discipline, while she hasn't toured since 2011's Number Ones, Up Close and Personal shows.
However, a dedicated group of followers posted a humorous 'missing' poster on Twitter begging for the return of Ms Jackson to the music charts.
"Seriously Janet, where the hell are you?" it asks. "We NEED you back. We miss you. Your fans miss you. THE MUSIC INDUSTRY NEEDS YOU."
The poster was spotted by legendary producer Jimmy Jam (who has worked on some of Jackson's biggest hits), and prompted the response: "Love this!"
But then Janet Jackson herself retweeted the poster, meaning the superstar has heard her fans' plea loud and clear.
The singer followed up the retweet with a cryptic message stating: "Letting go doesn't mean you stop."
We're not quite sure what we can take away from that tweet, but as long as Jackson's fans continue their campaign, there's a chance she'll make the return we've all been waiting for.
