Jermaine Jackson killin' it LIVE Damn, he sings a mouthful tune while slapping and popping that bass effortlessly. Respect!

Jermaine had and has some mad talent...just a shame that he stopped making music and started running his mouth about other people, including MJ.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agreed! He was on some reality show about country music a while back, he was very shy/quiet in conversation but when it came time to perform Jermaine killed it.

He has always been so talented musically. Judging him as a person and overlooking the music is unfair, no different from what others do to mj, yet the same fans have done it.

Yeah I mean the way he performed it, like it's no big deal for him, just another day doin his thang, no theatricals no gimmicks, just smilin, singin', butchering that bass, like a boss.
Trust me, those bass lines and stacatto singing together ain't easy to pull off, and he did it perfectly, without trying! That's some Mark King / Geddy Lee shit right there. [Edited 4/13/15 9:42am]

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I'm glad there are some people who do appreciate Jermaine. He was/is an underrated artist, particularly for his early '80s music. If you praise him on MJ forums, people treat you as if you've got two heads.

I've always thought Jermaine was the most musically talented of the Jackson's meaning as writer, producer, arranger, instrumentalists and most versatile. But Mike had the stage presence, the voice, and the moves. Plus that thing called IT that all the greats seem to have.

I was browsing in a used record store today and almost bought his "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" album, but the record looked too scratched up. Eventually I will get a copy from somewhere because I remember liking that album.

That's a good record. I think that's the one with "You Like Me Don't You".

I didn't know that since I'm not on any MJ forums. Why the hate btw?

I recently got an account at MJJ Community and any mention of Jermaine on there is negative for some reason. According to the members on there he can't sing which begs the question if they truly ever listened to Jermaine's albums. Dude had/ has a unique voice and great range on top of that, being able to sing bass and hit high notes effortlessly; his discography can be hit or miss but is overall solid and consistent. As a massive MJ fan myself, I fail to see why Jermaine is hated on.

Jermaine has been hated on for what he represented....real r&b, the recording industry began to phase out r&b in its most authentic form by the end of the 80s

Jermaine get's 'Hated' on because of his Diva 'real' personality.. Something he had since the J5 days.

Jermaine was very talented and he gets respect from me in that regard. With that being said, most of the family members get hate for things non related to music and things they have done to screw over Michael.

No,I think "You Like Me,Don't You" was on a previous album.
Let Me Tickle Your Fancy was released in the summer of 1982 and contains two singles: the title track and "Very Special Part".

Yeah, Jermaine attracts a fair amount of hate among some MJ fans for his personality and perceived past misdeeds.
If half of the things said in his ex-wife's book are true, I can understand it to some extent, but I'm also a big believer in separating a man and his music, and Jermaine had/has a lot going for him in that latter sense.
He can sing/produce/write/play, etc. His only obvious weaknesses are that he lacks the self-confidence, drive and 'star power' of Michael and Janet. [Edited 4/20/15 2:16am]

They got out of poverty because of MJ.. And most of them are still living off of his Legacy and his Money! & nearly Every time i've ever heard MJ discuss his childhood with his 'Family' he's broken down in tears!

they didn't get out of no poverty because of MJ and as of 2015, Michael Jackson has no legacy of his own, his name was permanently taken over and will forever be controlled by the establishment, the establishment now dictates his name and how it is presented now from here on out
and did you really see him break down in tears or did you see what he wanted you to see because every interview where he was shown to have cried, there was never one tear that came out
how are they living off his money when he was forced to sign up for a tour that he was not at all prepared for because he was a half billion in the hole unfortuantely
and contrary to the fiction that's been laid out for public consumption, MJ was not the person in the Jackson family who began to put this thing in motion, it was Tito Jackson, Toriano Jackson who kicked it all off by playing his father's guitar, and it was because of that their father saw that his sons could become future entertainers
and it was Jermaine who was the group's original lead singer
Michael Jackson did not represent the Jackson Five by himself, it was Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, and Randy who were right on taht stage with him, right with him rehearsing and memorizing those dance steps, Tito and Jermaine had to play guitar at the same time while doing the steps
do we know that Randy Jackson helped Michael develop rhythm arrangements for many of his songs from Off The Wall including Don't Stop Til You Get Enough and co-wrote Shake your Body Down to the Ground
wasn't that Jackie Jackson who co-wrote Can You Feel It and wrote Torture, both staple songs by the Jacksons
wasn't that Marlon Jackson who worked with Michael in the late 70s helping stage the group's dance routines during their tours, particularly the Triumph Tour which today still remains the best show Michael Jackson ever did
that light torch MIchael displayed on stage during his solo tours, that came from the Triumph Tour that Randy Jackson presented.......
wasn't that Marlon Jackson who had the #1 R&B single in the country in the fall of 1987 that supplanted the Bad single from the top of the charts.......
did we ever hear Michael's voice on Jermaine's solo albums of 1989 and 1991, with songs from both albums reaching the top of the r&b charts, the real r&b charts before it got obliterated
did we hear Michael's voice on any of Janet's albums, particularly Rhythm Nation that earned seven top 5 singles
did we hear Michael's voice when Randy Jackson released his debut album with his group Randy and the Gypies where his song Perpetrators
all those albums were released the same year 1989, all those albums were released after the BAd album completed its run and MJ concluded the Bad Tour
but wait it gets deeper, Janet did not have MJ to sing on any of her songs, but it was MICHAEL who asked Janet to sing on his song Scream in 1995, because he knew Janet had reached equal status in the United States in terms of consistent album sales and that he was trying to regain the audience he knew he had lost by the end of the 80s, w/many of those representatives went to support Janet by then.......
it was MJ who asked his brothers to perform with him during those 2001 MSG concerts w/the same goal in mind upon the release of his album Invincible, an album that was geared to regaining the r&b audience he knew he lost years before......
but wait it gets even deeper, it appeared they were "leeching" off of him all that time from the early 90s on because all the brothers careers were sabotaged along with Rebbie, THAT'S why we never heard any music from them when everyone could have been making music in their own right as they all did in 89.......
but people have been conned and choose to keep upholding the same tired, rehashed narrative of the past 27 years, a narrative that has no truth to it, it's as fleeting as the wind itself, and it's because of the madness that janet jackson got out of this country and now lives half a planet away because she got sick of it......and more than likely she's not returning back for long term entertainment
a story that could have been the greatest ever in music history, the absolute greatest has become the greatest living nightmare......and it never ever ever had to be this way........
and I'm sure there has been allot of days over the past quarter century where Katherine Jackson wished she would have just raised her family in Indiana and wouldn't have everyone berated and attacked for exactly zero legitimate reasons, and would have had a peace of mind, where people wouldn't be all up in their business like they have a right to do so, that goes for any other famiy, and then there wouldnt' be anything to complain about

I'm sure I've missed this in the many Jackson threads over the years. But, can anyone tell me why, Universal has decided not to reissue Jermaine's Motown work on CD? I can only recall seeing maybe two or three titles released digitally. Why do they ignore his catalog when it comes time for reissues? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.!
