Not a bad list there whatsoever. Eclectic. When Im trying to cool off, I listen to a lot of down tempo, ambient music. One group I can never get tired of is Portishead. Portishead is some excellent, dark, tranquil music with a female lead singer that possesses the voice of an angel. I recommend their debut album, "Dummy" or their live album from 97 called "PNYC". Thievery Corp is another fantastic group to chill out to. Their stuff almost sounds custom-made for Martini Bars and the elegant kind of crowd. And if you've never heard of DJ Shadow, you should seek him out. His debut album, "Endtroducing" is considered by many to be one of the best albums of all-time, and its also an intriguing record because the entire album is composed of samples of other artists' music. So for him to create something entirely original out of older, diverse music is extremely impressive. Its mostly cooled-out, atmospheric stuff. Perfect for kicking your feet up to. None of the groups I mentioned above have very many similiarities to those in your list, but its incredible stuff. Youll find something youll enjoy, Im sure. Happy listening! biggrin

So you think a lot of the trip hop groups like the ones you need, with a lil jazz fusion and maybe 1 soul song will make a perfect relaxation cd?

I'd bet my life on it. Trust me, the vibes this music gives off is amazing. I dont recommend bullshit, pardon my arrogance and language. Hear it for yourself! Youll very easily find something to appreciate with those groups.

Skin color is irrelevant when it comes to conversations with people you meet online. On the web, people are nothing but letters that form words and sentences to make statements, or in this case, friendly recommendations. But no, cant say I am. Are you Louis Farrakhan?

Chill man...my bad...but nah..its just that i dont know many blacks that listen to those groups you named...and I thought you were black. Maybe I can mix your references with my playlist. I think that'll work.

Forgive me for being a dick, your question REALLY threw me off. So my bad. But hey man, it shouldnt really matter whether or not a good amount of people from certain ethnicities like or even know this type of (seriously dope) shit! Music is music man. If you find yourself really vibin' and enjoyin' the groups i told you about (and you will), spread their gospel to your closest people and put them up on it! Cant keep good music to yourself, thats a cardinal sin man! And while we're going back and forth as we speak, find a site online that streams music and sample the stuff i told you about. Let me know your first impressions.

I had already checked out those groups from Youtube and I gotta admit, that is some dope shit! Relaxing music with a hip hop sound to it. I like listening to the groups you named, plus Massive Attack aint bad either.

I did listen to Portishead and her song "Pedestal" is sweet. I got about 5 or 6 songs from the trip hop groups I may want to put on my playlist.

HOW COULD I FORGET MASSIVE ATTACK?!?! I always forget how much I love them. If youre more into the hip-hop side of things, check out their debut "Blue Lines". Its a bit old-school, but still way ahead of its time (91 or 92 it was released). And "Mezzanine" is their masterpiece. I dont know if I wanna recommend that one to you right away since that album could possibly scare you off over it's intensity, but check it out eventually once you get more familiar with Massive's sound. Its a crazy-dark album, but its a trip-hop cornerstone and has some of the sexiest fucking music put to tape ever. If you thought Sade was baby making music, it makes her sound like a 4th grade talent show performer (and Sade is my lover!). Now with Portishead, I originally wanted to post my favorite joints by them in this message from youtube, but its not letting me copy and paste the video codes, so you got some homework bro, sorry. Search for their Pnyc album or dvd, and check out "Humming", "All Mine", "Only You" (gorgeous ending to this song with a full orchestra), "Numb", and "Glory Box". Those will get the job done in helping you finally relax. Lemme know how you feel about those.

Considering the stuff I threw at him to hear (and if you're familiar with any of them, then you already know), hes well on his way to relaxation. He'll be dozing off in his lazy-boy while holding a full beer in no time!

One of the soul songs that I think will fit is Alyson Williams "Just Call My Name"
