Record Store Day last weekend was insane. Ton's of new records, vinyl that is. The store is huge, opened at 8:30 AM on a weekend and had a line that wrapped the store until noon.

What I'm NOT doing is paying $250 a ticket for a live show. I mean, I didn't just get a 150% increase in pay, what the fuck? If that makes me old, then whatever, nobody seems like their hurting in the music industry.

Speaking of "Record Day"

I thought the crowds around town were a lil' heavier than in years past for record day... that was a good thing.

I was in Hyde Park having lunch surrounded by other record buyers...many of them who happen to be young adults, 19, 28. We got to talking about streaming, Jay-Z's Tidal, and music in general...

I raised the question / thought that Cinny thread had posed.

The group of folks I spoke with were by no mean woa-is-me, but even among those who support artist / music... many times they had to choose whether the buy music or go to a concert(s). One guy told me live music was very important him but he couldn't afford to buy a lot of music and pay for concert tickets. So, he trades off by not buying as much music - buying a song or two of a favorite band's album - to downloading his friends music to listening to streaming via Youtube, 8 tracks or the countless other free sites.

Case in point... he told me that for the first time he's been able to afford the 3 day pass to Lollapalooza, $250. That 3 day fest will cost him an additional $600.00 for drink /food / transpo / and souvenirs. That was pretty much all of his extra money he had for entertaiment for the year. So, I do think not everyones tryingt to get over, but I suspect a lot of people are kinda making a choice on how they consume and pay for music.

Both points are exactly what I'm talking about.

Point 1) met some cool people at record day. Old guy told me he doesnt listen to anything he buys while he was high fiving 80% of the staff. Bizarre

Point 2) A grand for LOLla-go-fuck-yourself? I think not. That is a lot of money and if nobody else has noticed, wages haven't increased!

Point 3) Support local bands and music and send this greed a message...
