I'm a huge fan of a lot of modern music, so I get your gripe. There are always going to be people who glorify the past however, for personal and pretentious reasons.

I will say that unfortunately, a lot of the most artistically innovative and creative music I hear these days is not what gets mainstream airplay. Whereas in the past, popular music was also "quality" music too more often.
