Patti LaBelle on DWTStars (Shaking my Head)

First of all Ms. Patti gave us voice & high Notes during her beautiful Tribute to The Legendary Phylicia Rashad @ The BET Honors Monday night........now Fast forward to DWTS.... Last year Patti sorta-jokingly told Oprah that she argues with her Manager/Son (Zuri Edwards) every day about her business, gigs and how she brands herself. You can go on Youtube and watch ABC introduce all the DWTS contestants and you'll notice Patti is just "there'..Even when the audience members ask questions, she's just "there"....Patti was the First Legend to do a Reality show on TV1 back in 2004..It was classy and she was the Executive producer...Why would her Son book her for DWTS? Patti is not going to like rehearsing for HOURS and she's not going to like having the Cameras in her face like that. Patti has told us in the past that she's never going to do a project that does not "feel right". I believe her but I have a hard time believing that a 70yr old Patti LaBelle said yes to a Dancing show without being seriously "pushed"...In my opinion ABC should have offered her a "Patti Night" where she sings while the contestants dance...Cher & Stevie Wonder had GREAT Tribute nights on DWTS...Patti is not as Big(or internationally known) as Cher & Stevie but she's an American Treasure and she's more than worthy of receiving a Tribute night....I get that every year DWTS has to have an "Old Lady or an Old Dude" but they should have left my Patti ALONE...LOL...Can somebody Call Prince and tell him to talk to Patti? I know Prince has her number...What do you guys think of this?

I was a little surprised when I saw the announements yesterday. I have never watched the show but I think I will be taping it just so I can see how Patti does. Wasn't Gladys a contestant on the show a couple two or three years ago? As I recall, I believe she lasted longer than I thought she would. She ended up co-hosting some show on TV One or BET Centric after that gig and a failed attempt at her own reality show on Oprah's network. I just think it's a PR move since both Patti's and Gladys' music careers have stalled so maybe they do Dancing With the Stars to get their names and faces back out there hoping it will lead to other offers?

Linn4days

Not many bought her last CD... She has to continue to make $, and get exposure some way...

Entertainers are used to a certain lifestyle, and are not going backwards.

Plus, they are probably paid less for their earliest works, and most of age already have those..

Suzzane Summers is 68. I think Patti will do just fine. I've been reading she's already a favorite on social media. And Lord knows no one in that line-up knows how to dazzle an audience like Patti can. biggrin

Patti was on American Horror Story: Freak Show.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Oh Micky you're right... Miss Pat was mammy on Horror Story. She did my favorite episode of "The Dog Whisperer" too.

You just KNOW she's going to cut somebody. I hope they have ambulances at the ready.

"I think this the perfect way for Patti LaBelle to connect with a younger audience," says Dorothy Cascerceri, host of the TV show, "Cel... Corner."

"She is one of the most talented voices in the music business, but she hasn't been all that relevant recently. The show is going to elevate her star power even higher.

"It's certainly not going to hurt her ... unless she falls during rehearsal."

Elevate her "Star Power" to what? Patti is not some Reality Star trying to make it...

According to Gabby Sidibe Patti had the cast & crew in tears when she sang on the upcoming Season Finale of "Empire"....Doing the guest spot is a good-paycheck...

Also...Patti became a Grandmother for the FIRST time on Wednesday...Her son and daughter-in-law named their little girl "Gia Patricia Edwards"..I like the name..Only time will tell if the Lil'Mama will possess even a HINT of her Granny's vocal powers....

Extra: Why are you doing DWTS?

Patti: They asked me to be on the show for the past 4 years. I'm just saying yes to everything these days, within reason!

biggrin Patti never ceases to amaze! I hope she has some more intense routines in the future to help get those extra pounds off.
