What I really appreciate about Madonna in hindsight is how she realized that record contracts suck and you make no money from sales but what is invaluable is the publicity and media they give you.

She took that little nugget to the bank. While Prince and George Michael were busy not reading their contracts and getting all upset, Madonna turned lemons into lemonade.

My statements about Prince and George, both of whom I adore, sound harsher then I want them too, but the sentiment remains.

Madonna's album sold more and would have been #1 if Billboard's chart tabulations still actually made sense. That tacky Empire soundtrack got away with some ridiculous streaming exemption Billboard implimented that few agree with.

[Edited 3/17/15 17:36pm]

Empire is a phenomenon! That is not going away anytime soon, even for Madonna. She appeared on every show she could. Even spilling her guts to Howard Stern, to get to number#1. But it didn't help her.

That's pretty much what I said. This new album of hers may be getting some good reviews, but it's just not doing so hot on the charts. She didn't come in at #1 in the UK either, getting beat out by Sam Smith, I think. Pundits are saying that this is the most promo she's done for an album in quite some time but it still didn't help the album go #1.

tinkerbell's new MEGA album iz a BEAUTIFUL ACT OF DIVINITY shat out her glorious Swarovski bunghole and leaked on2 da world's computer screens in droves, MONTHZ b4 SHE HAD A ReLEASE DATE. Compared 2 prince's SECOND COMING fARTofficialAGEd, tinkerbell's REBEL FART is a MASTERPIECE of sales in its first week worldwide. tinkerbell's efforts in da media and her MASSIVE, PRE-SALES HEAVY ACTUAL WORLD TOUR will rake her in enough to finance prince's literal RELOCATION 2 MARZ. And hey, can I borrow a dollar?

Madonna has had so much bad luck lately. The MEGA leak of her album, made her a complete wreck! Then she faked a fall, that nobody bought, except her diehard fans. Then after all her media whoring, which involved her revealing that she "supposedly" had a two year relationship, with Tupaq! A two year booty call with him is NOT a relationship. It was NEVER any sighting of them together back then. Then her album debuted at only number 2. Poor Madonna...

lol @ faked a fall. I love Madonna, but I did find it kind of funny how not long after Lady Gaga--a woman who's been on the receiving end of several public Madonna shadings--flourished at the Oscars, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Grammys and the televised Stevie Wonder tribute, Madonna fell down the steps during a performance, released a new single that didn't chart at all and suffered a sluggish-selling album. Karmic justice?

Not surprised it sold that many or went in at Number one, but record breaker? Didnt Miami Vice the show do the Number one thing with ease and the soundtrack from my memory sold over a million or two overall, that is not gonna happen here, Empire would need songs taking over radio like Miami Vice did, tell then, its a hit, but let's relax on how huge it is.

That whole Tupac thing pricked up my ears especially after those things she said about black men in the 90's.

Lol!Did Madonna ever talk about Tupac back in the 90's? It just seems like she's grasping at straws to sell this album. She has been posting pics of her and MJ like they were friends and shit. And from my knowledge he didn't even like her. Tupac fucked a different girl every day of the week, so I would harding call meeting up to fuck a relationship. He wanted the same thing with Janet but she wasn't having it.

Plus it took over the entire world, and that isnt a joke, overseas it caught on, though it was just a fad that lasted a few years, when that HIT it took over everything, magazines, fashion, music, everyone was breaking down the door to do a guest spot. Im not slighting Empire on its success but, its a big world now and almost nothing takes over like that anymore.

She definitely cares. I once read that when "Confessions..." went to #1 around the world, she cried from happiness, probably because of the backlash and lukewarm reception that the previous album, "American Life", got. She probably wasn't expecting to go #1 around the world, particularly in the States, which is the most important market when you get down to it. All in all, #2 ain't bad.

It really isn't, and I don't like pitting soundtracks from movies or television against albums.

I couldn't get into Empire (because I'm a whiny org fuck who thinks the music sounds like American Idols on Macbook-made nonsense) but Courtney Love is a talented broad. I loved her in People vs. Larry Flynt BITD and she seems to have made a nice impact here. Maybe she'll actually get a Golden Globe.
