Cameo- Skin I'm In I've only heard Cameos fun songs. I never new till recently they got down like this. Some really great lyrics on this one! shame this seems to be forgotten in their discography. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I was happy to see in a recent Facebook post from the band (asking "what's your favorite Cameo song?")....this track got some love, being mentioned by several folks. I always dug it.
In addition to the obvious funk burners, they have had some "message" jams over the years ("Talkin Out The Side Of Your Neck" "Little Boys, Dangerous Toys" "Don't Crash", etc) Funk Is It's Own Reward | |

Love this song. JamFan Don't Crash was wild. I remember when that cd came out I was blasting Don't Crash and I was stopped at the traffic light and at the end when Cameo do that woot woot woot chant the guy parked next to me looked at me like I was crazy.  Don't laugh at my funk

What i always liked about Cameo was that a lot of times, even in their more playful(?) songs, there was some kind of social message that went beyond some of the more traditional funk band lyrics.
When i think of those type of Cameo songs, i think of songs like You Can Have The World, Two of Us, Don't Be So Cool, Secrets Of Time, etc. The thing is Cameo were always good at hiding spiritual, positive messages within the funk. Concerning spirituality within the lyrics. In my mind they were kinda sorta like Earth Wind & Fire. More subtle about it, but in quite a few songs the spiritual message was the same.
Anyway good thread and the album Style has been the Cameo album I've been thinking about lately.

You may wanna check some of Cameo' s earlier work from the 70's to 1980 when Wayne Cooper and Tomi Jenkins were singing most of the lead vocals. Don't laugh at my funk
