Imagine-John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religon too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
In a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say i'm a dreamer
But i'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

heart peace 2 all

this perfectly illustrates what i've been saying in the politics & religion forum.

it's really great that there are people who dream of a peaceful world and a species of man that doesn't need to war within itself. but that is not our reality at present, and as much as i'd like it to one day be, we have to LIVE in the present. as great as the dream of the future may be, we have to do our living now. we have no other choice. and sometimes wars need to be fought.

take, for example Lennon. he wrote a lovely song dreaming of a world where peace reigned. but look what happened to him. shot dead. disbelief obviously we aren't there yet, and until we are, there's ugly shit in the world that needs to be resolved, and often the only way to do it is in terms that those who are perpetrating it understand: war.

But the answer is not more WAR. This idea that we will be safer here in the USA if we kill thousands and thousands of Iraqi civilians, is the biggest load of shit ever. Yes Saddam is horrible and a murderer and we are better but we never realize the right way to prove it. I already now how this one will turn out, thousands of iraqi people will die and flee their country, families and homes will be destroyed and the Bad Man that we were gunning for will live on. Same bull that we pulled in Afghan. We destroyed a country that was already destroyed and its just as bad now as it was before and the "bad man" we gunned for still lives on.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

John wrote one of the most beautiful songs ever. The message is so clear, however, there are just way too many religious people and fanatics out there that could never imagine a world without their religion. It's really too bad because without religion, there would be no war. It causes more harm than good. Look at the sick fuck that kidnapped Elizabeth Smart. He claims God told him she should be his wife. Also, take a look at the politics & religion site here and read some of that crap and you'll see how brainwashed some people are by their precious religion.

And without religion he'd just blame his actions on something else, and we'd have songs/threads that imagine the world without whatever that is too. That's a mental health issue, not a God issue.

I heard an interview with Bono saying this is one of his least favorite Lennon songs.

After the obvious soundbite to raise curiosity, he said that we should take ACTION to bring about peace, not just imagine it (he went on to say that Lennon did this elsewhere, but that this song is the lasting message - imagining it rather than causing it).

Bono once again prompts me to think about something in a different way. I still love the song, though - not giving that up.

That's a sad excuse for war.

In Lennon's defense (not that he needs it) one must imagine something before they can bring it about.
